My Belial gets owned. I run him stock with super scratchy sword and storm bolter of mediocrity. Been avoiding TH/SS but am ready to give in.

How do you outfit your Belial and why?

Thanks

Surrounded by Knights with T5 and a 3+ invulnerable save.

i was hoping not to hear that suggestion...

I like my scoring units in the real reason i don't use them but for cheaper points they are better than generalist DW units.

I run Belial with DWKs and it seems to work out well. Remember, DWKs while not scoring, are also denial units and can capture line-breaker. As long as you have enough scoring elsewhere you should be fine.

Specifically Belial though... is TH/SS the only way to go? Is there any value in his Sword/SB combo that I am not capitalizing on?

you automatically lose points for using the trite gamer-isms: balanced, meta, Mat Ward, etc.

The benefit of the sword is that Belial chews up 90% of the infantry in the game and at I5, WS6, and 3 base attacks he does a pretty good job of it. Forget his warlord trait, Belial really should never be hunting warlords, it's just going to cost you your warlord

If you're looking for some semblance of competitiveness then TH/SS on Belial is an absolute must. I would never run him with claws and I would only run him with Sword and SB in a fluffy game. There's something really disappointing about getting insta-gibbed by a techmarine 'cause you can't get past his 2+ save and you fail your 4++ on his counter-attack. Yes you lose the initiative advantage but you're most likely gonna be on foot anyway and will often assault through cover (without grenades) so you might as well swing hard and have better durability.

The Knights are debatable, I personally would never use them without a LRC (again from a competitiveness standpoint). They're way to easy to stay away from when they're DS'ing or footslogging and you NEED the charge (and extra attack) when you're going after that big scary unit that you're gonna use beastmode on. So LRC is a must for them (IMHO) usually buffed by an Interrogator-Chaplain or Librarian.

I ran through the options yesterday and TH/SS is really the only way to go.

for the cost of nothing...

you gain:
3++ (over 4++) invul save.
+1 AP
Concussive

you lose:
Initiative 5

you maintain:
Wounding on 2+ (Fleshbane vs S8)
Number of Attacks (SB is not a CCW)
WS6 (unaffected)

Time to start converting!
