Subject: Using LEGO for terrain projects?

I am just asking if anyone in general used Legos outside of temporary use of terrain and put some work into it and make it into more realistic look to it (like cutting it up and such)? I ask because I have a lot of legos and I am planning to make some terrain for my group.

As a longtime lego collector I shudder at this.

Lego's are actually holding value nicely, so cutting it up is very expensive to many other sources of terrain materials.
You might wan to sell off the Lego and get some more suitable and cheaper materials for terrain building instead.

I would not ask this, but I have lost a good amount of things to remake the kits and sets. Also, it is random bits not from any sets as well over the years. . Alright, I can understand that. I just wanted to see if it was done before, but I can understand if it is expensive as well just to cut it up.

I've done it with cheaper non-Lego blocks, picking a grey colour and painting/spraying on some other greys for some visual texture.
Certainly you could chop up blocks to make 'permanent' scenery, and that would give you more options to cover up its blocky origins. But I found it more useful to just create a bucket of loose blocks which I could then assemble as required for a particular game.

Sorry, but as a professional LEGO model maker, I must insist that you do not refer to them as Lego;s !! - its LEGO
Now that cleared up, LEGO is a fine medium for making scenery, vehicles etc out of - I would suggest you go with the more cheaper brands to keep costs down, and if your LEGO s all faded and worn, then go for it, its not worth anything on the open market !
I have used LEGO for making weapons modular on vehicles, I think it works better than magnets
II would be interested in seeing pics when done

It's a pasta sauce.
OTOH, LEGO is a plastic interlocking modular brick construction system.
I use them in making terrain all the time - they get used to make the forms for my mouldmaking, and for making squared off edges on foam cuts so much easier.
As for using them AS terrain?
Outside of brikwars, no.

It doesn't take paint very well and will scratch and chip easily if not sanded/primed properly.
There are far better materials to work with.
Better off selling/donating the Lego for any amount and buying something else.
