Hi,

This is the second Blood Angels Captain I've painted using the same bits (Sanguinary Guard box and The Sanguinor wings). Here's an animation first:

And here's a compilation that I had some fun with in photoshop (note, I didn't really manipulate the model -- just the outside edge of the model and the background). I'm interested in your opinions:

It got a really poor score on CoolMiniOrNot so I'm not sure if it's totally obnoxious or what - - I think it's pretty cool and brings the model into the action a little more.

More info at my website: http://www.warandpaint.com/2014/03/blood-angels-captain-version-2/

Thanks for looking!

That's a beautiful model. The only constructive criticism I might have is the exhaust from the jetpack might be better served being orange and yellow instead of blue, also that the sword, at least in the picture, looks a little odd (only on one of them though).

That said, I'd be proud to field that, or to kill it through excessive firepower =D

Thanks tommse!

@deathmagiks: Why orange and yellow instead of blue? I think the blue does a good job of breaking up the reds, but I suppose there are only about 3 different colors in the model! As for the sword: my cat actually gnawed on it while I was looking away, so I had to correct part of it by painting in "powerfield" damage.

Here's a better photo of the sword:

That looks awesome. I think the exhaust looks amazing in blue. In fact, I'd love to know how you did it.

Well done indeed!

I'm a big fan of your work and this model reinforces that opinion. Plus, you're in Virginia, so that helps too!

@ScootyPuffJunior: Thanks! I also just realized that one of the major places I buy bits from, Hoard o' Bits, is located only an hour away from me in Harrisonburg. Maybe one day I'll intrude on his/her life and get some sweet discounts

@lav25gunner: For the exhaust, I started with a dark silver base, then I added a bright pure blue (Enchanted Blue/Magic Blue) in a rough edge highlight, then added white to the blue until I got an inbetween blue and white color, and then edge highlighted a little thinner, and then added pure white to the innermost area where the jets would be. It's really quite easy, try it out!

Love the paintjob, but to me the way the sword is held jut seems a bit unnatural... Minor points.

@BlapBlapBlap: It is a little awkward, but I stand by it. GW's original hand positions on this sword made absolutely no sense to me so I chopped one of the hands off and found a bare handle and replaced it. I think it makes a lot of sense if you imagine that he would be holding the two-handed sword appropriately but he's relinquishing one hand to shoot. Plus it would be beneficial to hold a sword this way if you were going to fly into enemies, as slashing from the side would be better than thrusting, though I suppose it depends whether you are landing on the enemy or beside them.

Great work! Good to see another BA player keeping up with them.

Oh, the exhaust looks great on that pack by the way.

Agreed on the sword, other than that lovely conversion!

"How am I gonna hold my sword? Upright so my arms can support its huge weight? No, hold it all to one side, and strap a gun on our wrist to make it impossible to aim." I get it. That's what GW do.
