In the BRB, there is already the Primary detachment, the allied detachment and fortification
.
Now there is Lord of War, Inquisitorial, Legion of the damned and Imperial Knights. And formations. How do they all work?
Can any army get them, or can you only get those that can normaly allie with your army? Wich armies doesn't have access to some or all of those new slots?
Every armies seems to have specific Lord of War choices (super heavies?). I've heard that everyone could take some formation, except nids (Cypher?) What about the other 3 new things?
Do Stronghold Assault add the number of fortifications you can take or it's just more choices and some new rules?

Do Stronghold Assault add the number of fortifications you can take or it's just more choices and some new rules?
Going to start with this as it is the easiest. Stronghold Assault fixes some of the rules regarding the Fortification datasheets in the BRB and adds some new options, such as new Fortifications and upgrades.
Now there is Lord of War, Inquisitorial, Legion of the damned and Imperial Knights. And formations. How do they all work?
Think of Lord of War as another slot, like Fortifications. It is not part of the Primary Detachment, but is taken in conjunction with it.
Inquisitors, LotD and Imperial Knights can either be a Primary Detachment (with a variant FOC since they do not have Troops), or they can be taken as a special allied detachment that does not use up the "normal" Ally slot.
Any army that does not contain a detachment that has a Come The Apocalypse relationship with the above 3 can take them as allies.
Dataslates are a completely separate detachment consisting of special formations that are treated as coming from the parent codex. Again, you cannot take if something in your army has a CtA relationship.
Each army has its own Lord of War options, which are listed in either Escalation, or, if your group allows Forgeworld, here.
Hope this helps.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Can you take more than one extra detachment? Eg taking a Helcult and a Mayhem pack.

Yes, each Formation can be taken multiple times. Note that certain ones include Unique characters and as such can only be taken once.

Thanks for the answers. =D
So you can only have one fortification? No way of getting a bastion and an aegis defence line for exemple? Or one of the old fortification and one new?
I'm guessing that LotD are with chaos-demons, Inquisition and IK are with the emperor? So no love for the xenos. =(
Some models are both in FW and Escalation i think. Do both book gives the same stats and rules?

There are two ways to get multiple Fortifications. One is to play at 2000 points or more, which unlocks a second FOC. This method requires you take 2 HQ and 4 Troops (minimum) from a Primary Detachment (though the maximums also double). In SA there are Fortification Networks which consist of multiple Fortifications but count as a single choice (kinda like an IG Infantry Platoon). LotD, Inquisition and IK have an Allies Matrix in their codex. IIRC they are AoC with Eldar, DA with Dark Eldar/Tau and CtA with everybody else. Though don't quote me on this. It really depends. If they got added to Escalation, then those are most likely the most up to date rules for them.

The FOC you are looking at is for a Primary detachment only.
Everything is repeated in a second detachment when playing 2000+ points. This includes another Fortification.

There is a third way to get extra fortifications:
If you look in the Stronghold Assault book you will find three, I think it is three, additional missions. These mission require one player to be nominated the 'defender' and the other to be nominated the 'attacker.' The Defending Player gains an additional Fortification slot while the Attacking Player gain an additional Heavy slot. This would be an additional way for one of the players to benefit from an additional force organization slot, though it does require both players to agree ahead of time to play with a 'supplements' mission.

Most people do, which is sad because some of them are actually very interesting and I have always been a fan of the whole 'defenders/attackers' setup. It just feels more realistic that one side would be devoted to 'repelling boarders' while the other is focused on capturing dedicated objectives or pushing through those boarders to strike deeper inland. Though to be honest, if you let the Defender take Fortification Networks there is an insane number of buildings that are being placed even with just two Fortification slots, should they devote their points to such a list. I won't say to House Rule it away, maybe a rule stating only one Network wouldn't be too bad, but it is good advise to build the Attacking force centered around devoted 'building-killers' with the heaviest hitting weapons available to them. After all, it turns out a small elite Army that can hide itself in several hard-bunkers is an Army that is near impossible to kill in just 7 rounds....

My problem is while i have a copy of the book, no one in my group wants to use it, so all those extra missions *poof*.

Nothing we can really do to fix that, well short of holding your local group at gun-point till they play a mission and like it!

Yeah...no Escalation, no SA, no FW, no dataslates. I'd go somewhere else to play, but...

Under the "Books and Digital" section of the GW site ( http://www.games-workshop.com/), available in two formats (iBooks and eBooks I think?). I would provide a more direct link but I'm still getting to grips with the new site.
