I haven't played Warhammer for a long, long time. When I used to play I remember my HE army list contained 25% of WE allies - I've found the section in the new rulebook for allied armies but no mention is made of fielding allies controlled by the same player. Does this mean it's allowed only if in agreement with the other player? I'm guessing if it is allowed, it would be 6.25%+ core, <12.5% special etc.

Reason I'm asking is I've been reading the DE back story and thought it would be cool to bring along some Chaos Marauders for Morathi's Slaanesh- backed crusade. I guess I could always use them as a stand-in for Corsairs, but would need to stick them on 20mm bases. To be honest the way things are going I'm having too much fun painting and modelling to actually get around to finding people to play against, so perhaps it's all academic.....

Allies rules in the current edition are for allying with a friends army not taking units from another army list.

To create a mixed army list army you will have to agree on house rules with your opponent as it is no longer supported in WHFB rules (outside triumph and treachery).

Thanks for the reply, seems a shame they got rid of it. I guess it made balancing hard now that you have 'regiments' broken down into core/special/rare, since you could offset core weaknesses in your army (lack of st4 core DE for example) with the relevant core choice from another army.

Yeah it was a really cool mechanic but a lot of people were very angry about it because of balance issues.

We will have to see when 9ed comes around if allies pop up again.
