Hi all, I started a tactics thread about using Zag and the question arose of having a nob in the squad AND having Zag lead them. Per the FAQ: Q: Several units have the option to include a named character as a boss, are they added to the unit or, like a nob, do they replace one of the existing Boyz? (p99-103)
A: They are added to the unit.

And per the codex: Instead of a Nob, one mob may be lead by: Boss Zagstruck.

Can a squad have both a nob AND Zag?

It clearly says instead of a nob, so no you can't have both the faq refers to groups sush as flash gitz(badruk)

I think the FAQ refers to the fact that Zagstruk is added to the unit rather than being bought as an upgrade to an existing Stormboy.

So while you could have 15 Stormboyz plus Zagstruk in the same unit per the FAQ (which is not contradicted by the Codex), you could not upgrade one of those 15 stormboyz to a Nob since the codex says that you may take Zagstruk instead of a Nob.

"It doesn't say you can't have a nob, it just says you can let Zagstruck lead instead of the nob. " the faq makes it fuzzier because it states zag is 'added' to the unit and implies that zag isn't 'replacing' anyone.

Implied, gray interpretation. I was hoping one of the others who have talked about this before would argue this point better. I've only ever done it twice and I wouldn't expect anyone to take my side on it in an arguement.

If it said "replace nob with zagstruck" I think there would be no question.

If you want to have fun in the grey area's, Zag is added to the unit, so you buy your 20 storm boys, then add Zag for 21 models in the unit.

It's to the point now, play it as you want to, June is coming and winter seems like it will still be here

I see what you are trying to say.

You are trying to Say Buy your full unit and a Nob for the unit, Then Buy Zagstruck. Zagstruck is "Leading" your unit instead of the Nob; but the nob is still there.

While an admirable attempt is is patently wrong; but mostly because the Codex is older when Nobs were Leaders of the unit(by the rules) so having Zagstruck Lead the unit instead of a Nob means you are not allowed to have a Nob at all, instead you have Zagstruck.
