So I know Nintendo's home consoles have kind of been the bastard children of the last two platform generations, but I keep looking at the lineup for the WiiU, with all the fun Mario games, Windwaker HD, and the upcoming Mario Kart 8, and I'm really considering getting one.
Do any of you own a WiiU, and if so, what do you like about the system?
Is there anything you really don't like about the system?
I own one and I love it, Lack of games was bad for awhile there but its getting better now. Between the new DK country's coming out and Smash and Mario Kart I'll start to be happy. Another plus is that Nintendo like providing backwards compatibility so you also have the whole of the Wii library open to you as well. (Assuming you dont have one already)
The Gamepad when you first see it looks like it could never be comfortable but, it really is. Sits well in the hands. Only complaint is the battery life isnt the best on it. But if you have an outlet close enough its easily remedied by hooking up to its power cord.
Other than that its a good system. It is a bit lacking in the Virtual Console department compared to the 3DS but Nintendo is working on it, albeit slowly it seems.
Overall if your looking for some good games the Wii U is great. Be advised though that you will still need Wii Remotes if you dont have them already. Most I would think know that but I figure it is worth noting.

I really like my WiiU as well. I'm annoyed at how Nintendo chose to handle things, and they've pretty much backed out on their promise to really ramp up 3rd party games. But I still love it, its a really solid system and the games I own are really good. I will also suggest that ZombiU be a must have. I really enjoyed that game.
And also agree that the controllers are very comfy, the game pad is surprisingly comfortable

To be fair, that was a promise anyone should've seen through. When in the last 15 years has a nintendo console seen good 3rd party software support? Besides, they can't promise it regardless, other devs need to do that.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is really fun. The online was still pretty active last time I played as well.
I just reread the thread and realized you want to know what we think about the system. Oops lol. I have got the most use from it with Netflix, I like using the tablet controller to watch it, it is almost like having an iPad that way.

We have a Wii U and we like the additional interactivity that is possible through the Wii U controller., namely some of the 3 v 1 games where the one player is being chased/hides, etc.
Fair enough, you can't play all the games that are available for PS and XBox, but it's great for all the party games, and there are some really fun ones out there.
Me being a teenager, I really shouldn't enjoy playing those, but games like Nintendoland, where everyone can play at the same time, are good fun.
Don't make the mistake of playing Wii games on the WiiU, though (which is possible). The graphics aren't great at all and it's just not a nice gaming experience.
Surprisingly, the WiiU works well for 'more serious' games, too. Take for exampe CoD Ghosts. You can either use the GamePad or the Wii Remote controller for it. With the GamePad the controls are quite similar to PS and XBox, but the Wii controller allows for point control. This is awsome because you can actually aim at enemies. The graphics aren't that great obviously, but it's nothing that destroys the gaming experience.
As said by DA's Forever, you need to buy the Wii Remote Controller separately. I found that here in England it is cheaper to buy the game Wii Party U which comes with a controller than buying only the controller. So keep that in mind when buying yours, not sure if that was just a local thing or actually Nintendo's standard pricing.
Finally, the WiiU isn't very popular atm. Some might see this as a disadvantage and maybe it is one. However, this means that preowned games are very cheap which allows you to buy two or three games for the price you'd normally pay for a single one.
So all in all I can only recommend this console!
Hope this helps.
Have there been any good Mario Party games for the WiiU? I have Mario Party 8 for the Wii, but I was disappointed compared to the older games of the series.
I might be wrong but I dont think one has happened yet for Wii U? Not that I can think of off the top of my head at least. If it had I'd probably own it
Take with a grain of Salt however, its very early for me right now. I may very well be wrong
EDIT: My curiousity got the better of me and I was right. None released for the Wii U as of yet. Then newest one Island Tour was for the 3DS. Forgot about that one.. Will probably pick it up

Ah, cool beans. The games for the WiiU are starting to look good, but I would only get one if they released new Metroid, Zelda, Smash Bros, and Mario Party games that were *good*.
Metriod... Dear god Nintendo friggen please.... Please... And dont jam that miserable excuse of Other M at me Nintendo, it was trash and you should feel bad

Agreed. I'd love a good Metroid game for sure. I was excited to see they will have a watch dogs on the Wiiu but sadly it's being delayed for an undisclosed amount of time. I want to play that game, and I'd like it on my WiiU, but the question now is, wait for and hope it does come out...... or just buy it on another system.... which I don't want to do.

Completely agree. I put less than an hour into Other M before I stopped playing. The only other time I've ever been so disappointed in a game was with Elder Scrolls Online
Preferably with absolutely none of the writers from Metroid Other M and has a storyline and characterization that blatantly contradicts and spites Other M at every turn.

I will admit Mario Kart 8 does look fun as a washing machine full of monkeys on LSD.
That's as much as I will give Nintendo...

However, these days I've outgrown consoles mostly.
Gaming on steam is cheaper, more convenient, and the PC can do far more than consoles running laughably outdated hardware while prancing around proclaiming that they're "next-gen" with a straight face.

But no seriously, if Nintendo lets Sakamoto even touch Metroid again bad things will happen.
Very bad things.

I'm tempted to go out and buy a WiiU so that I can say "I like that my WiiU doesn't violate me in the middle of the night after buying me dinner". But I won't.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I said that aloud...still can't find the innuendo.
Which is impressive given my mastery of the innuendo and sex joke.

Love my Wiiu! It really has a very nice selection for almost any category. It's the obvious king of platformers, but you can still get the big shooters, with large online play communities. It has great party games, like wii you party, or the under rated nintendo land. I still play Mass effect 3 online all the time. I also like the cheap older games you can download. I'm having a blast playing metroid fusion and advance wars.
I can't recommend the wii you enough. The graphics are better than the ps3. the ps4 and xbox certainly look better, but we're getting to the point where improvements in graphics don't make much difference now. granted I never really cared about graphics anyway, IMO graphics should just help facilitate immersion.
It gets a lot of hate online. but everyone I know who has one loves it. which is only anecdotal, but it still supports my point.
I've had people tell me when they play on my wiiu that they are surprised how comfortable the gamepad is, and if that's not your thing, the classic control is excellent, with a huge battery life.
Agreed on both counts for the controllers. The game pad is oddly comfy, I can play for several hours strait and have yet to get cramps or stiff hand. Same with the pro controller, my god that thing is comfy, and the battery life is just stupid. I've lost the charger cable 3 times because in the time it takes to wear out, I've lost it
Been playing Wind Waker HD and Injustice gods among us lately. Wind waker is just awesome, no surprise there, and injustice is just great. I've been a fan of fighters for years, and this one just feels buttery smooth in both mechanics and game play.
