So as most of you know the hemlock is a pretty bad flyer with an awsome model. I would like to make some minor changes to it in order to make it better and would like to hear your insights or alternatives.
First, change the psychic power that it has from a malediction to a witchfire, it would allow the player to use it on the turn he arrives but has to roll to hit.
Second, change the guns from S4 AP2 small blasts to either large blasts or templates, maybe even with a 6" torrent. Right now a canny opponent will be taking about one wound with a cover save allowed, and for a flyer that costs almost 200 points it's not very effective, even with all the other powers its got.
Alternatively one can just drop the points cost to say 150 points, but unless the rules are changed I still don't think anyone will take one.
So would you use the model with these rules and would you let your opponent play with them?

Even with a witchfire he still won't be able to shoot i think, due to the psyker not being on the table at the start of the turn to generate warp charges.
As for the changes i think large blasts would work. They need quite a big buff, but i was thinking instead of S4 they would be S8 but would against Ld. This would make them really good against what they should be (Tyranids, IG, Tau) while not as good against most elites due to higher Ldship. What do you think of that?

Reading the fluff I think it would be logical to have the Scythes ignore cover. I mean, how is a tree going to stop your soul from being ripped out? It'd also make them fairly effective(S:4 AP:2 Blast with IC... What's not to love?) and would definitely fit the ignores cover fetish sweeping through 40k.
The wound on LD would be sweet; however, I don't think it's going to make more hoard killing, but rather the opposite. You can now remove 25pt terminators as easily as any 5pt Guardsmen after tagging it with horrify.

There is already far too much low AP ignore cover in the game, IMO.
(Also, the reason it can't use it's main weapon the turn it comes in is not because of warp charges - there is an explicit rule that says maledictions can't be used the turn something arrives from reserves).
An av10 flyer that can't use its main weapon the turn it comes on is just weak...

That's why I proposed that the main weapon would be changed to a witchfire. I've been checing the BRB and FAQ and I can't find anything that says a psyker has to be on the table to generate warp charges, merely that he generates them at the beginning of the turn.
I realy like the S8, roll against Ld thing for the gun, especially with large blast. And while I agree that ignore cover would realy suit it, there's already quite enough of those kind of weapons in the game so it giving the hemlock that kind of a rule must be carefully considered.
