Hey all, thought I would share the fruit of my latest completed project. I was dissatisfied with the heldrake model and its fit with my army's aesthetic, so I converted something that had a more renegade astartes feel than full up daemon. Hope you like it!

It's a good paint job and model, but it doesn't feel like a counts-as helldrake. Where's the flamer?

Beautiful paint job, and really dig the detailed base.

However, as was said, where's the flamer? Unless you're planning on having your Heldrake with the auto-cannon thing (don't play Chaos, not sure of the exact name) that's a pretty big eye-brow raiser.

I decided that a guided missile with napalm-like cluster submunitions would be a sufficient explanation.

And thanks for the kind words about the painting.

Yeah, I'm kinda with that comment.
There are certain 'languages' within warhammer's aesthetic. To me that looks more like many other guns in the universe but never really a flamer.
Personally i'd have taken out the missles and replaced with vents, blank panels or somesuch and used something like a hellhound weapon or two on the chin mount.
I don't want to take away from the painting and modelling shills though, it really does look great but I've been swayed by him up there. ^^^

Yeah, the chin mount on the nephilim is an easy swap. You could leave the missiles for 'vector strikes' and just pop a big ol' flamer on the chin.

I think you would have a hard time, on top of convincing people that it's a Helldrake, convincing people that that weapon is a flamer.

Regardless, though, the model looks awesome! Very well painted and I love the base.

I prefer this over the drake. You nailed the renegade astartes aesthetic you were going for! Nice job! I'd buy the whole napalm-like sub-munitions explanation.

I actually run a pair of FW hellblade fighters as my "helldrakes" because I hate the model and because it doesn't really fit my Iron Warriors feel. I did put flamer tips on the auto cannons though and mounted barrels (fuel) next to them with a cable going to them. I like this model you got going here also.

The model looks really nice, but not terribly Chaotic or like it would stand for a Heldrake that well. As a painted model though, it does seriously look good, and that base is excellent.

Looks pretty mean, but something about the weathering isn't clicking for me. I think maybe you weathered it too realistically? It sort of looks to the eyes like painting mistakes, before you get the "weathered" impression. Or maybe it's just the way I'm seeing it.

beautiful paint job! I love the idea, but if i were looking across the table, I'd be wondering if you were playing dark angels or chaos.

I do have to say this, though, thank you for giving me a sound reason to get this model, I have a chaos space wolf army that's supposed to be more of a 13th co feel that the heldrake didn't look right with. (Using leman russes as a base for defilers, lol)

Hmm.. I must confess that I didn't think the idea of using it as a heldrake would be such a stretch. I guess we all have our own perspective on what "fits" with a given theme. Thanks for the feedback- here's a picture of it with the rest of the army. Maybe in context it won't look so out of place.
