Hi all,

Not tried the Tyranids in 6th ed bar a couple of early tester games. I've read a bit about what people have found effective and am thinking of trying a couple of these.

Hopefully you can see where I'm going with this list. At the moment its not finalised and I want more troops so am looking to perhaps drop one of the 'fexes

See what you think and any input appreciated :

HQ - Flyrant with Regen, Toxin, Grubs, Miasma, LW/BS
HQ - Flyrant with TLD/BLW x2 (Warlord)

Elite - venom

Troops - 5 x Stealers + Broodlord to infiltrate

Troops - 3 x Warriors with 1 Barbed Strangler

Troops - 20 x T.Gaunts 10 with Devourer

Heavy - 2 x Dakkafex

Cheers

Looks good, though I think you have over invested in upgrades for your Winged asassain...I'd drop the Regen, and Miasma, and spend those elsewhere.

As a MC can fire twice Id likely make ythe most of that by retaining the weapon, but i see what you mean about regen. Esp on a unit that will be used very aggressively. If I had it it would make more sense perhaps on the other being the Warlord. Likely though I could use it for more troops?

You're more likely to get good use that way (buying troops). Sorry I though you had a Toxic Miasma , Miasma Cannon is a good upgrade, though you can get a Thorax hive for 15, and spend 10 elsewhere...?

You will most often have the Winged asassain working up close, so the ranged option won't come up too often...

So far I've not been impressed with my genestealers. They are expensive and die easily. Both because they are often the only thing within rapid fire range on turn one and because of bothersome stuff like overwatch fie etc. I'd rather spend those points on another group of termagants with 10x devourers.

Your synapse is a bit weak. My winged Hive tyrants are usually dead by turn three or four, unless I have practically won by then.

With some of the savings suggested you can probably afford a small termagant unit to hold objectives or a small hormagaunt unit to keep something shooty busy for a round or two or a single zoanthrope for cheap backfield synapse.

Keep the 4 MCs. They work very good in pairs. And take the two dakkafexes as separate units.

Great point re keeping the fexes as two units.

The troops would be a backfield synapse but yes I think I'll rethink the stealers. The idea was to infiltrate to give an immediate threat. In fairness, I think that would only be the case if I had 8-10.

A Zoan could be handy, even a second venom. Also as you say another group of gaunts to look after objectives.

Wow, well this worked!

In a nutshell. The HTs were a huge threat but I flew them too close, they were both downed with flak, then shot at, then charged by iron clads and killed. Disaster! Thing to learn is to keep a safe distance so you cant be charged. I rolled (please do not swear) though. Rolling 1 & 2 for grounding tests, took a wound from the flak, a wound from hitting the ground, another from more fire and another in CC.

The rest though, went in our favour.

The crone 4 x missiles took out a land raider and vectored and took out an iron clad.

The zoan with his lance got a pen and took out another iron clad.

1 x Dakkafex took out a rhino and its 5 man squad

His 5 man terminator with TH/SS took out one of my fexes but I in turn took them out when my fex (12 shots), 10 devilgaunts (30 shots), 3 warriors (9 shots) and vanilla gaunts (10 shots) got them down to 2 and then charged by my warriors and fex to wipe them out.

He called the game at the end of Turn 3 with a rhino and 5 man squad plus tech marine left.

Cool. Well thats kinda the way it goes. If the Winged Tyrants get targeted, they will get killed. But that just means the rest gets the job done

I use a Winged Assasain myself (LW/BS, Toxic) and I am very happy most of the time. I custom modded it to have one set of Brain Leeches, and if I can find points I toss in a Thorax hive as well. But I use it very conservatively, mostly as a reaction force. That way he stays alive more

As usual in low point games Big Bugs Rule!
