Bounding Black Templar Assault Marine





Haven't played since 5th Ed though interested I creating a small characterful force for gaks and giggles. I've based this list around the two units I really wanna field; the biker Lord with his bodyguard and the Leman Russ. I feel the list has a good answer to horde/GEQ, MEQ and MC's and though lacking in the anti- tank department though I have no idea what the meta- game is like in 6th Ed and what is really important and was wondering if you guys could help me out with comments and criticisms?

I'm not looking for a list that is super competitive, rather that simply performs reasonably well and allows get the most out of the two units I really like.

I think that a second Leman Russ would be a great addition, just to account for the first one getting focused on. You already have a lot of troops, so maybe you could lose a veteran squad to help make up the points.

Fliers would be a problem, thats what 6ed is going to make you hear if you dont include Anti-air of some kind. You have a reasonable amount of shots but they arent that strong and dont have skyfire. So all those Autocannons need a 6 to hit the flier and 5-6 to glance the most dangerous stuff.

Other than that Id say drop the pfist from the bikers because it wont matter on a 1 wound champ. You need to give 2 bikers Plasma or Melta as well so they can be any sort of threat. If youre very worried about vehicles give the Lord melta bombs. The biker champs only job is to take challenges you dont want the Lord in. Icon of Wrath I wouldnt even use but your call.

Next I dont understand why you split the CSM to groups of 7. You might as well bump them to 10 and take 2 Special weapons. Las/Plas is a favorite but Melta can be Fine if your friends use a lot of tanks. Be careful though, Rhinos are pretty easy to kill and will give first blood.
Also Mark of Khorne on average Marines is bad, I know you want a theme but just warning you it wont win you back any points. Why? Well Close Combat isnt a good option for Chaos. Since you cant assault after being rhino moved its especially lack-luster. We get one stritcly average assault vehicle, no Drop Pods, and cant even deep strike very reliably. Its very frustrating.
Also beware CSM cowardice! If you dont want to bother with squads of 10 find room for a 2nd Lord to add Fearless to a CSM squad. This will be required if you have your heart set on MoK and trying to bother with close combat. One lost assault can get your unit swept.

IG has a new codex VERY soon so I wont even bother there in detail. However allying in IG for troops seems sort of pointless. Always ally in things you cant get or that allies do a lot better. Thats my personal feeling. So I agree with "moar tankz"

And as always needs Obliterators and Heldrakes (but thats because they are some of the few really good units in the entire CSM codex).

Khorne Bikers seem really cool though so good luck!

Didn't realise that you only had to take one troops for your allied attachment, my bad! Also, your suggestion of a second Leman Russ is a good one, especially as the Rhino's have gone. Should think two AV14 vehicles at 1,000pts should be enough to dilute the enemies fire power, though again I'm unsure.

That is definitely something I had left out! Help relieve problem by adding a defence line with a quad- gun which also guarantees my guardsmen something to hide behind. Have trimmed the bikes and given them meltas and after reading some stuff online about CSM I've decided against them (no fearless; wtf!) and gone with cultists instead. I've then switched IG to my primary force as a second unit of cultists adds nothing and allows me to take the tanks as separate choices.

The combination of Chaos/IG is a fluff thing; I like the idea of fielding an army that is a bunch of rebels being wanting to free themselves from the oppressive grip of the dead Emperor and had allied with chaos to achieve their aims, unknowing what the Dark Gods have in plan for them...

Anyway, here is the rewritten list. I have some points spare, not sure what to do with them.
