So I am receiving Kharn the Bloody from forgeworld in a couple of weeks as a birthday gift and wanted some opinions.

I currently have a Chaos space marine army, Night Lords, but as my name suggests Kharn is one of my favorite characters so he gets used anyway, blood for the blood god and all. So when the new model comes in to replace my well worn Kharn, I was wondering if I should just go ahead and paint him in his post-heresy colors. Also I am terrible at painting white but I would like to know how, and this seems like a good opportunity.
Just wanted to know everyone else's opinions.

You have already made your decision it seems. Good luck with Kharn the unfriendly.

Yeah I am leaning that way a bit, but I am very indecisive about paint schemes until they hit my model, and I don't want to regret painting this epic model(on top of it being expensive for one model)

Have you considered doing him in NL colours? I've seen some fairly good renditions of Kharn in the blue with those lightning details.
Though if that's not your style I'd say go post heresy colours.

I'd also suggest doing some minor kitbashing in order to closer represent the Betrayer rather than the Bloody.
Give him a chain axe, the familiar khornite helmet, chaosy backpack, and some more skulls.

This is merely a suggestion. If you are content with the Kharn the Bloody model then by all means, paint away
I look forward to seeing the result

Peace

It's Kharn. If his armor isn't painted red, it'll be red by the end of the battle anyway. Post-heresy colors, I say.

I like the pre-heresy scheme. It's... I don't know... I just like it for some reason.
