Hi all,

I have a tournament this weekend which is 1000 pts where super heavies can be taken.

I will be using Blood angels and I wanted to know the best way.

I have gone for

champion with combi-melta and melta bombs
inquisitor with 3 servo skulls

5 scouts with 4 snipers and 1 missile launcher

2 squads of 5 vanguard all with meltas in 2 drop pods

2 squads of 5 sternguard with jump packs and 2 power fists and 6 melta bombs

My tactci is to drop pod the vanguard with meltas and hopefully destroy some tanks

the sternguard can deep strike and assault that same turn. they have powerfists and melta bombs to cause damage.

What do you thin of the list? only 1 troop choice needs to be taken btw

how would you change it and what tactics do you propose depending on what heavy i am against?

I'd not go in for the super-heavy hunting too far. You're not guaranteerly destroying one, say a knight with 4++, in 1k even if you go full tankhunting and by taking too much anti-tank stuff you'll not be able to deal with other threats too.

Yeah...I might do one squad with meltas, but tailoring the list to take out superheavies means you die against anything else.

10 Sternguard w/ 10 combi melta in a pod will kill any superheavy you can squeeze in 1000 points. Can also combat squad them against regular armies to blow up two standard vehicles.

The vanguard veterans that can assault out of deep strike are really weak and too many points hidden in reserve for a 1000 pt game. Assault marine troops with melta guns or flamers will be a better bet for the ability to score and still be quick to damage.

I think you got vanguard and sternguard mixed up by the way, it's vanguard who have heroic intervention. It looks pretty good against a Knight, or indeed any tank heavy list, but it will probably struggle against infantry heavy lists. The other problem is that you're only getting one pod down on turn one, which leaves you light on bodies, and very vulnerable to being taken out before you get a second turn. Could you get a third pod in there somehow so that you at least get two down turn one?

Very much false. Ten meltas equate three hits through the Ion Shield on your run of the mill Knight. Two of which must then be pens, must roll 4+ result, and must roll at least 2 on a D3. It is possible, I would not count on it.

They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear.

Consider allying Space Wolves. Rune Priests, and Grey Hunters are solid as your compulsory HQ and Troops choice, and Wolf Guard are still one of the cheapest options for a combi weapon suicide unit. Only 23 pts a model to ~28 for sternguard.
