Hi - I just converted to windows 8 (Yes. the dreaded windows 8). and I've been having a whole lot of problems with 2 things. First of all, my internet speed for games, like War thunder and Minecraft etc has almost totally cut out when I try and play them. It registers, but I don't have anything close to a good speed. I have Wifi (500 mgps) and an appropriate adapter (a D-link wireless N- Nao USB adapter (DWA-131).

can't even open minecraft, and I can get through the login screen on war thunder, but then it times out.

Any suggestions? And nothing like "install windows 7"

Try an Ethernet cable to see whether it's your adapter or software. Also, Minecraft should launch without a connection. Try turning off check for updates in the launcher.

I logged in successfully yesterday, I think its actually because windows 8 only dedicated internet to one process at a time....And the fact that the NBN hubs are being put in just up the road.

Just verified its only minecraft. Just played a game of Killing Floor without much lag (98 on victorian server)

It's your computer subtly hinting you should be playing other games

So finally got it working OFFLINE. Damn windows is firewalling it.

Any ideas to turn it off for when I play minecraft/FTB

Use a third-party Antivirus and disable your Windows one. Most have dedicated "gamer" modes where they deactivate their firewall.

If it's Norton, or any free trials, deactivate as well. Personally, I use ESET. Just remember to run only one at a time, otherwise they meddle with each other.
