Is it possible to declare a tank shock while deep striking? I ask because Deep Striking counts vehicles as Cruising, whereas the minimum required for Tank Shocking is Combat speed.

The worst part about 40k is that my models don't hug me back.

Even though tank shocking explictly gives you permission to be within one inch of enemy models?

You can tank shock coming in from reserves, but with deep strike,
What direction did you face the tank?
what is your declared distance in inches?

If you can't aim and declare a distance you can't tank shock.

That overrides the general restriction.
Find something that overrides the mishap rules.

You are allowed to Tank Shock from reserve even though you cannot face the model and measure distance from it. Tank Shock with DS however does not work.

First line of Tank Shock
"When moving a Tank, the player can declare that it is going to attempt to Tank Shock instead of moving normally." Page 85, BRB

This is a replacement for normal movement. I believe we can define normal movement as movement as it is described in the movement phase and unless someone wants to contest that this means you must be following the normal movement phase rules and be allowed to select the tank for movement. DS happens before normal moves.
(DS and other reserves are completed) "The player can then proceed to move his other units as normal." Page 124, BRB, Arriving from Reserve

Their is one exception made to the above.
"A Tank that moves onto the battlefield from reserve may attempt a Tank Shock" Page 85, BRB, Tank Shock from Reserve
A DS is placement not movement though and this requires you to move onto the battlefield.
"First, place one model from the unit anywhere on the table..." page 36, BRB, Arriving by Deep Strike
After the DS the model counts as having moved but that does not fulfill the requirement of 'moving onto the battlefield' at the time Tank Shock would be declared as it must replace a current move to be enacted.
"In that turn's Shooting phase, these units can fire (or Run) as normal, and obviously count as having moved in the previous Movement phase" page 36, BRB, Arriving by Deep Strike

DSing models counting as moving is a source of much confusion, just keep in mind they don't count as such until the shooting phase.

What I love is that we all agree normal movement is basic movement but normal shooting isn't.

That is a great explanation abbadon.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

P36, "deep striking units may not move any further other than to disembark ..."

The tank would mishap, regardless of permission to move within 1".

Not true. It states they may not move any further, meaning ds is definitely movement. It can only do so after arrival however.

That's what I said, but magnificently obscured it by arseing up the abandon quote, seamlessly camoflageing his words as mine.

It should have read ...

Which I disagreed with, deep striking IS movement, placing models is not, in of itself.

A point we have debated before but either way in this case it is the same so we can continue that one another day
