Okay guys, so I'm thinking of picking up some of the Empress 28mm British infantry models. I'm an instructor with the cadets here and I think they'd be perfect for a model for orders out on the field. However, I have the idea of changing the heads on the models to make them a little more...Irish. Specifically making them look the men of the Royal Irish Regiment. So, does any body know of anywhere where I could get 28mm heads with a beret featuring a hackle? Not a massive one mind you. The chances of picking up 28mm heads with a caubeen I would guess are next to nothing. Any help appreciated!!

The beret probably isn't an exact match to a caubeen, and needs a hackle added, which you could do with plasticard or green stuff.

It would look all right in 28mm, though, unless people have a magnifying glass.

I would be a bit worried that the hackles would snap off easily from being the most likely point by which the figures will be picked up.

Another option is to get some heads, modify the beret and hackle with putty to make a master, and mould them in resin. I'm not sure about the copyright position on that -- you might need permission from the original head modeller.

Hasslefree Miniatures do separate heads for converting and you are allowed to make castings from your piece. There would be more work involved in making the hat and hair, but maybe not that difficult. (Actually it might be interesting...)

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

Or look at the Elhiem Figures huge 20mm range of modern Brits, they have a range of headgear versions I think... even did headswith berets once.
