So Im curious again after reading about some blokes having success with RG tactics. Is the beatstick better than the stuff khan gives? after using him in almost all my games i'm not sure still.

Even in the world of servo skulls.... I still use Khan... One word... Outflank. I have used this to great success in my games. I was at Adepticon this weekend, and all but one game... I used outflank over scout.

It entirely depends on your list. That said RG have pretty bad chapter tactics, and if you're running any bike squads Khan and WS is certainly the way to go. As you have a second HQ choice you can grab a beatstick chapter master as well.

Are we talking about a biker list or rhino rush? There is going to be a huge difference between the two.
Bikers are better as white scars period. Khan is great for scout and outflank both.
Rhino rush the balance is almost even between the two. However if you take a centurion star of some sort with it then you will need a shield eternal chapter master which means Khan just became an extra pts sink that you didn't need. Hit and run is still nice though.
There just is not an easy answer and that is a great thing.
I am getting tired of people saying Raven Guard is a bad chapter tactic though. They are a very good chapter tactic which is pretty hard to use well. They are an army that can win against anything but winning will be based on how well you play.

Khan or a Beatstick? It's the Sophie's choice of a bike army.
Khan is so mediocre and a beatstick is so beefy, but scout for the entire army is really useful. It can be largely shutdown by servo skulls, but outflanking is still an option. Without Khan to scout bikes away from their own board edge ld8 bikers are also very likely to run off the table with a 3d6 fall back if they fail a morale test on turn 1 leaving the unit vulnerable to an alpha strike. It seems crazy not to play with Khan until you play with him and he remains so useless for most of the game, but then it seems crazy not to play with him when bikes start getting shot up your own deployment zone.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

He is useless for the rest of the game =( he dies so easily too.

As said above, depends on the rest of your list and what you want from him, if you want a beatstick, its a easy choice. Khan is a force multipler, so if you have lots of bike units that will benefit from scout or outflank its a good option.

I take khan all day everyday. I find it hilarious how many people think he's useless as a combat character. He's basically what makes my combat effectiveness go. Use him as a bully to beat up scoring units while your chapter master cleans up the rest.
Edit: I just realized this is an either or question. Why would you take either or when you could take both a CM and khan?

Points cost limitations or the desire to take a librarian instead.

I understand the points cost aspect I always play at 1500+ where they're usually worth their points in gold. I just ally in my Libby's usually a rune priest but you can go with a telepathy Libby as well. But I see your point.
