Maybe he can front some jingle for his buddy Typhus, so he can get one too.

The burning pits of Hades, also known as Sweden in summer

So that he gets a 3++?

He is pretty decently nasty as it is tbh.

welcome to another episode of why the fans don't write the rules....

you automatically lose points for using the trite gamer-isms: balanced, meta, Mat Ward, etc.

With the loss of being able to have S8, Instant Death, and Shred all at once, Abaddon is much less killy than he used to be.

He can either hit at S5 AP2 +1d6 attacks, or he can hit at S8 AP3 shred.

Your choice.

A 3++ really isn't all that much on a model who's fallen far from grace.

And in this exhibit, you can see "Valueless Commentus arrogantus" in it's natural habitat.

His stats you just listed are already amazing.

Who beats him in 1on1?

Compared to what he once was, he's much less of a beatstick. The trade-off is that old Abaddon did absolutely nothing for his army other than kill things, while new Abaddon unlocks chosen as troops and gives friendlies in 12'' preferred enemy against Space Marines.

He has a good but not supremely amazing WS, four wounds, EW, the benefits of all marks,, the potential to have FNP if attatched to a unit with the proper icon, hatred and preferred enemy against space marines, five attacks base, and a combi-bolter that will kill precisely none of the things. Roll a one for the extra-attacks and now he's WS1 and smacks himself in the face.

Assuming a one on one fight, he gets crushed by Skarbrand, no ifs or buts.

Iron-father Smashfether (Clan Raukaan Chapter master, Artificer armor, Gorgon chain, biker, thunder-hammer/lightning claw with betrayer's bane and a tempered helm; though strictly speaking the last two aren't needed) also triumphs quite often against the despoiler, as Abaddon has the choice of bouncing off of T5, a 3++ and 5+ FNP (4+ with a good warlord trait roll) with IWND all day, or wounding on 2s but bouncing off of all that and a 2+ while Smash-fether reduces him to I1 the first time he hits, wounds on 2s, and only has a 4++ to worry about. In addition, the "roll a one and suck for the turn" thing means that Abaddon really doesn't like to be in a protracted battle.

He also likely gets crushed by a Mace Prince or a Tzeentch Uber-prince or Be'Lakor. A crimson slaughter nurgle/tzeentch biker lord or Khornate Juggerlord with a daemonheart and juiced up blade of the relentless also has a good shot at killing him.

In ye olden days before the inexplicable Nerf, a juiced up Swarmlord could take him down pretty easily.

He is a great Beatstick to be sure, one of the best, but as of late SCs are starting to be pushed out by super-custom Generics.

so, in otherwords, he's fine as he is?

He wasn't particularly game breaking when he had his old stats, and indeed most people thought he was overpriced and overspecialized.

These days...he's still overpriced and not quite as powerful and overspecialized.

He's fine, but a 3++ won't really unbalance him for a few points.

The things that already could beat him would still beat him with the 3++ only largely delaying the inevitable.

I kind of feel the OP was posing the question because of humour rather than attempting to balance Abaddon. After all it's pretty funny that every chaos lord and sorcerer in the Eye of Terror carries a Sigil of Corruption except Abaddon (and some of his special character buddies). I guess there are no statisticians with enough courage to explain to Abaddon about frequency distributions.

I think they originally wrote the FIRST 6TH EDITION CODEX with balance in mind, and then afterwards were just like, Meh, Lets give the good guys and good filthy xenos all the better stuff...

By balance I mean an even possibility to screw yourself over with every minute upgrade you get...

I understand worshipping Chaos is the big risk/reward army and all, but damn... If I wanted to play Orks, I'd play orks. (and I do)

so is Marneus Calgar unbalanced because he can't screw himself over?

just stop using the trite gaming.whines and use you words. and if you think the game is so poorly done, how is your perfect tabletop game selling?
