I was recently at a not so close hobby shop that has x wing game every Wednesday night. After speaking to the owners about tournaments I started browsing the store.

I spotted the x wing section and was a little taken aback by some pricing. All core and expansion sets were MSRP except for the Tie fighter and x wing which were both

listed for $24.99. Talk about price gouging.

Would you frequent a store like this?

Absolutely not.

In contrast, one of the FLGS's which I go too accidentally ordered too many TIE Bombers, so they marked them down from $14.95 to $9.95. And so I bought one.

Out of total curiosity, was it an error? I've heard of stores marking up the more desired pieces like TIE Interceptors to like $20. Even at that, I know I can always find a store that has them at the right price so no, I would not touch that stores door handle if it wasn't absolutely necessary. I would also worry about the player base who's willing to pay that :/ Poor guys.

I've never seen any actual gaming shop upcharge for any items they have in stock, not a good business model in my mind...especially if you offer play space.

I would not go there again, but if it was my only option I'd simply buy those expansions elsewhere and spend the rest at the shop if I wasn't too miffed.

Yeah that seems pretty outrageous. At the very least I would have asked the owner/clerk about it in the hopes that it was a legitimate mistake. That being said, of the three LGS' I've been in, one has a large supply with everything at retail, one has a small supply but at 20% off retail, and the third has a small supply at retail.

And given the ability to order online (at least here in the States) I'd never pay over retail for any of the expansions at the moment. I suppose its plausible that at some future date some of the expansions may go "out of print" and thus become that much harder to find (sort of like old Magic The Gathering packs), but odds are, I'll have what I need by then anyway.

Uncool practice there. If your in the states there's too manat reputable online places that sell and quick delivery. I'm for supporting the small flgs when I'm able because the do I store gaming, but I won't pay more than retail for that priveledge. They can charge me table time if they want, because I can play at home, but don't try and rob me.

Going to the store is fine. Just don't buy the overpriced merchandise. Maybe the owner will get a clue when they are not selling any products. They should be attuned with the prices their competition is selling at.

Granted, they may not be as cheap as online sources who may not have the overhead costs...but selling at retail should be the highest, anything more is nonsense. Most stores I've been to offer at least some sort of discount, points, or bonus...etc (an incentive to be a dedicated patron).

In the end, if the FLG store is reasonable, I don't mind buying from there to support the local gaming community even if it is a tad cheaper online, but I won't go for prices soaring above retail.

I haven't spent over £11 yet on my imperial fighters, because I had to wait for my imp aces set amazon gave me a discount so they worked £8 each.

Some scrum bags are over charging for interceptors but I can wait for the restock that's incoming.

Thing is I have a full fleet and I'm still under £100, if I started a new 40k army that would not even get me 1000 points.

And I'm having much more fun with x-wing than 40k atm.

Just tell the shop that he's overpriced his miniatures. Remember that he's competing against the entire internet.

I buy all my stuff from a local store as MSRP and will by happy to do so since they have gaming tables to hang out and play at. But if they try to rip me off, then there's always competition.
