im buying a used Black templar dreadnaught off someone and the model is more or less unifinished (looks like he primed it blue and then decided last minute he wanted to make black templar instead). however it has a decal on its leg already for black templars. i play dark angels and while coming up with a new decal isnt hard, how do i remove the old one without severly damaging the model ? how do bring him back from oblivion guys? (also this guy is kinda cool in that he added a kalabite warrior with a splinter rifle getting crushed by him which is kinda cool, im probably keep that).

Is it a flat transfer? In that case , if you plan on repainting it you can carefully use the back of a hobby knife to scrap it off if it hasn't been sealed. Failing that a soak in simple grren/purple power/etc might work as well

If it a raised bit? If repainting then carefully cut it off.

If you don't want to repaint it then there's very little chance of getting it off easily

Use Microset. Soak the area with the decal with Microset for a few minutes and it will come right off with a few firmer than normal brush strokes. It won't strip paint or damage the paintjob if there is already one in place that you need to preserve.

Honestly? I'd just strip the paint off it (sounds like there's two layers of it) and it'll take the transfer off with it. Get some Simple Green from your grocery/hardware store, pour it in a tub, and soak the Dreadnought in it for a day or three. Scrub the whole thing off with a toothbrush and work from scratch. The alternative would be to either scrape the transfer off or get Microset to soften the decal and peel it off that way, but I'd just strip it and start over.
