First time trying to build a new force to expand out of only playing Nids. Looking for a semi-competitive list that will do well against most others.

Front Line: Lord and Plague Squad, Heldrake, DS PlagueBearers
Mid Field: Sorc and Plague Squad, Oblits, Soulgrinder
Backfield: Cultist

Feel like I have too many points into my 2 Plague Squads but they should stand a great chance at taking fire/killing most other threats. Champs to absorb Challenges

Your sorcerer is in terminator armor. He can't get in a rhino with the plague squad.

Rhinos need dozer blades. Its a 5 point upgrade you would rather have and not need than need and not have. Same with melta bombs on plague sarge. Melta bombs have saved me on multiple occasions. They have downed two Imperial knights for me.

Oblits aren't fearless and have leadership 8. VotLW will give you a much better chance of keeping them useful. If you lose one they are running.

Do you have a void shield. That is a fortifications you either have or don't. Many people won't let you proxy them.

If you are worried about you PM squads costing too much (or need to save points for melta bombs and dozer blades) you can drop the LCs as the champion already has a plague knife. Agains marines and down you will wound on a 4+ with a reroll.

Sorcerer isn't in terminator armor. Has a 3+/4+ Invul with Sigil. He comes with force weapon base or am I missing an FAQ?

Will try take out of the Claw from Champs. to add points for Dozer and Melta's.

Would it be best to run the sorc with the obli to help with Fearless?

Also, Void is represented by an extra quad gun i bring.

Thanks. Will drop the claws to add the dozer and melta's.


Since I am not planning to put anything in the Redoubt, would it work to drop this and add a quad+ aegis? I typically fight against AV12 flyers and the quad has never been able to down one yet.

Extra points would probably go into another obli + more cultists for scoring.

You could try swapping the flamer on your helldrake to the autocannon.

That combined with a vector strike should hopefully take out those larger flyers (stormraven?)

I would try to add dirge casters on rhinos. No overwatch is pretty big for csm. You may not need to mark your sorcerer unless you want to roll on the nurgle table.

When in doubt do what seems hardest

Vendettas and storm ravens. What if I keep the flamer and change the phleg Bombard on the Soulgrinder to the Harvest Cannon for skyfire option on top of the aegis? With a quad this would give 3 threats to flyers. Imo, all are only str 7. Maybe the IcLasscannon instead of the quad gun? Could put the Nurgle Herald on it for 2+ reroll so it should always hit.

Have the dirge on. I would unmark him but he would have no one to attach to outside of the cultists.

I'd not take MoN on a sorc. +1 t is handy but u're better off with more useful power rolls. Get a spell familliar instead. There's nothing worse than failed psy-power when you need it the most. And i'd take force mace/stave instead of a force sword. Probably a force axe but it's a bit more risky.

Quick rules clarification for ya. An IC in the CSM codex CAN join ANY unit if he is unmarked. If he IS marked, only then are there restrictions. A marked IC can only join similarly marked units or unmarked units.

So Nurgle Sorc can join Cultists and Plague Marines, but not Khorne Berzerkers.
An Unmarked Sorc can join Cultists and Plagues Marines, and Khorne Berzerkers.

Have you considered the Vengeance Weapon Battery w/Icarus instead of the Firestorm? Saves you 125pts, still gets you 2 TL S9 interceptor/skyfire shots.

Was going back and forth on MoN. I like primaris and 2/3 nurgle powers, but the extra div roll will probably outshine it. Ill unmark him and see how it goes.

Also, the Balestar gives you reroll on tests, so no need for spell familiar. Win

Thank you for the Clarification on IC and marks! That really opens it up the options on when to take them. Have not considered the vengeance weapons as I have a quad/Aegis and a redoubt.

I am remaking the list with a cannon and ADL to cut back those costs.
