I'm just starting out with Tyranids and have been watching lots of videos online to help me choose a list. I mostly play for fun although it would be nice to create a semi-competative army. My list looks like this:

Winged hive tyrant with two twin-linked devourers

3 Tyranid Warriors with Deathspitters

3 Tyranid Warriors with Boneswords

2 x 20 Hormagaunts with Toxin sacs

3 Hive Guard

3 Zoanthropes

2 Venomthropes

10 Gargoyles

2 Carnifexes with 2 twin-linked devourers each

3 Biovores

Tyrannofex

Comes to exactly 1850. What do you guys think?

Looks like a fun list, but those Warriors will get focussed down quickly, especially if you play them aggressively. The bonesword warriors look to be played that way, maybe consider keeping them stock and adding a few more?

I'd lose the hive guard and replace them with more zoeys, since the bs3 on the guard makes me sad.

Safe to assume that you're going to be rushing the enemy? Most of your stuff is pretty aggressive. Good start, maybe more synapse and you'll be doing great!

Looks like a fine non-tourney list. I would also agree on dropping the bonesword warriors. They won't make it into combat so it's just a waste of points. Use the extra points to add more bodies. Tyranids can always use more bodies on the table.

Thanks for the advice guys. Another quick question - I've been toying with the idea of swapping out the second unit of Hormagaunts for 30 stock Termagaunts so that I can bring a Tervigon. I'd also have to lose the second unit of warriors and a few more Hormagaunts. I really like the idea of a Tervigon but I've heard they're not great in this edition. Would I be better off beefing up the warrior squads?

I like one Tervigon in my lists - good to provide another scoring unit with at least one spawn, and the Tervigon itself is really durable and useful.

More models in your warrior squads is good - I like 5 or 6 ideally - but a Tervigon is a great idea. Just keep the Termagants running away from her if she's close to death.
