I think an allied detachment requires a troops choice and a HQ. Also, I think you are allowed only one allied detachment per primary detacment. See rulebook p 109.

An Inquisitorial Detachment is not an Allied Detachment and as such, has different rules.

To the OP: I would drop some jetbikes for A DE Venom with grisly trophies. This will make your LD 8 warlocks pretty damn happy.

My only issue with the Venom is that I find it gives away first blood too easily. Are there ways to mitigate this? Also can I afford to loose the jetbikes, they are the best objective controllers/deniers in the game?

Man if i remember correctly just a few weeks ago you were completely new and were asking about how to run a seer council. Seems like youve figured out how huh.
List looks good, The venom is a great addition, and is pretty small. Hiding it behind some los blocking terrain will keep it from first blood (hopefully)

As above, Venoms are pretty samll and easy to hide. LoS blocking terrain is your best friend. You can afford to loose the jetbikes because the council itself can provide a similar effect by splitting up in to 4 seperate units on turn 5 and jetting 3 of them 48". (Farseer, Farseer, Warlocks, Baron) AKA the "Voltron Split"

Yeah, Dakka has been really helpful and I have been looking through battle reports and tacticas and played a few test games at the club. I really like 40k now and the Council has helped me to grasp every aspect of the game. Thank You Dakka!

So if I drop the jetbikes then what? Add a Venom with Grisly Trophies? What do I do with the remaining points. I am also worried about Long Range AT, can you see anywhere were I can sneak some into the list?

If I were to juggle some stuff around to add the venom this is what the list would look like:

ELDAR PRIMARY DETATCHMENT

HQ - Farseer w/Jetbike, Shard of Anaris
HQ - Farseer w/Jetbike
- 7x Warlocks

Troops - 5x Dire Avengers w/Wave Serpent, SL + HF
Troops - 5x Dire Avengers w/Wave Serpent, SL + HF
Troops - 5x Dire Avengers w/Wave Serpent, SL
Troops - 3x Eldar Jetbikes

DARK ELDAR ALLIES

HQ - Baron Sathoynx

Troops - 5x Kabalite Warriors w/Venom, GT

INQUISITON ALLIES

HQ - Inquisitor w/3x Servo Skulls

Total - 1500 exactly

If you're talking AV 13-14, then not really. At 1500 pts you're not likely to see a ton of it, but if you are likely to see a knight however, you're probably going to want some.

Side armor doesn't mean much to a land raider, which I take a spartan assault tank in 1000pts soooooooo good luck with dealing with that even in 1500

He doesn't need luck, he has Witchblades, Singing Spears and Empower/Enervate.

A LR is somewhat of an oddity, usually AV13+ vehicles are long-range fire support or walkers. The most efficient way to deal with LRs is up close, preferably with melta and if not, then CC, unlike say a Predator or Anni Barge. For this reason, you don't really need long-range anti-AV14, but you should definitely have a couple of S9 AP2, or in the case of Eldar, S10 AP2 and S8 AP2, Lance, to deal with AV13 walls.

This is something I rarely say, drop the HF from the serpents, and buy 6 spears for anti heavy tank, there your covered.

I dunno, getting close, as in, close combat close with the landraider means you have to suffer what comes out, especially if you fail to charge or don't actually kill it would be devastating

In my case thats moloc and 5 terminators xD.

Getting close as in within 12 inches to shoot the land raider with 9 singing spears, then shooting what ever comes out with the remainder of the army, and then assualting it, and taking min damage with rerollable 4+ and a rerollable 2+. then hit and running away

I hope you enjoyed the games today @SeerCouncil!
Although they didn't go your way, I think you learned a lot, and the first game was very very close At least you now know never to try and take on the cultstar in combat, and I hope you figure out how to take out AV14
(Anyone wondering what my list was, I'll post if anyone wishes?)

How did he have trouble with this? He didn't get fortune or something?

Regardless spears will solve those AV14 problems with basically 7 12" lascannons twin linked and possible re roll to pen.

Because the cultstar DESTROYS on the charge... And if he's getting close enough to throw spears, he is most definitely in charge range.

That's why a Seer Council shouldn't be the only threat to vehicles on the board. There's only so much that can be done. Then again, the Council is a very tough army to play, after a few tests, I wouldn't be suprised if the tables turn around on you, Tactical_Genius.

If I was running a Seer Council, I'd most definitely run a WK and a squad of 6 Swooping Hawks, maybe even two squads of them. Hawks in general are made to kill LRs, as you trade 96-121 points for near triple that AND you leave the guys inside with two options: Go around the Hawks or assault them, and even if you assault them, good luck surviving the next round of my shooting at your exposed melee unit.

The Rad and Psychotroke grenades throw can really change the outcome of an assault. This is throws a LOT of AP2 attacks and it is a cheap unit. The player's only chance really is to have Fortune and pray for one really good turn of rolling saves, then hit and run out and shoot the unit to pieces. If that did not happen, game is effectively over.

Plus, it also may depend how familiar a person is with this kind of army. I have no idea what an Armored Battlegroup army actually is. I assume something out of Forgeworld. It's definitely not something I've ever played against.

As far as the Venom vs additional scoring unit of Jetbikes, I'd like to read the OP's thoughts. I'm more of a fan of more scoring units, but I can see the merits of the Venom with GT.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

The Venom I found to be very useful in rerolling those all important psychic checks and saved a few warlocks from perils. The extra unit of jetbikes funnily enough would have won me the first game as I couldnt both contest his objective and hold my own. The baron failling his 2++ rerollable invun vs a vanquisher shot didnt really help :(

For all those who dont know the 'Beasthunter Vanquishers' have S8 AP2 Small blast shots with INSTANT DEATH. Bringing a wraithknight to this fight would have ended a point sink. The cultstar does wreck face on the charge throwing out an obscene number of AP2 attacks that even the council gets beaten down.

@Tactical_Genius - All in all they were fun games to play and I look foward to rematches in the future

@Araenion - you make some good points, but my cultstar does not fear anything that comes from reserve (at least against the council), because I should be in combat by then. If @SeerCouncil is going second (as he should), then I have at least two turns (plus a scout if he loses the inquis for hawks or whatever) to get to combat.
Hopefully @SeerCouncil learnt a lot from our games - I know I have the experience edge, but I appreciate my army isn't the best in the world (I use it because I love the units), and I await with anticipation the day that his star wins.
I also think his recent forays into thinking about the beaststar are an effective alternative - I fear the beaststar list he wrote much more than his seercouncil list.

Beaststars can be nasty, but it has more lists that can beat it easier as apposed to the seerstar, which has very few couters

While this is true, there are advantages to the beaststar:
1) More models = bigger multi-charges
2) Less reliant on psychic powers = more reliable
3) Cheaper = more supporting elements
4) Less hate
