So, with everyone taking bloody great super heavies with D weapons, and Imperial Knights now available to anyone with an Imperial Army (and their allies), what is a good choice of super-heavy for CSM? The current options are...

Warhound Titan
Reaver Titan
Thunderhawk Gunship
Brass Scorpion
Lord of Skulls
The four Daemon Lords

Of these, only one is actually in the basic rules (Lord of Skulls) and the others are allowed by the FW FAQ. So, are any of them worth taking? I'm assuming here that in most regular army sizes, the Reaver is ruled out, and many if these are too expensive even then, coming in around 700 points or more.

So, what do we do against the hordes of knights?

Well a warhound with dual str D weapons is really really good. but that's fairly obvious...

It really depends on your budget... but against Knights I'd say a Thunderhawk with the turbo laser upgrade. Should easily kill one each turn, and they can't do much about it.

The best is clearly the Reaver, followed by the Warhound.

Most of the Chaos LoW are pretty subpar.

If you are playing large enough points, the demon lords have a size advantage over many other LoW. Smaller model = more cover + easier cover. Is the Belakor effect a thing? It should be.

Tau have awful escalation options, but otherwise we are bottoms of that list. Daemons allies are usually the force balancing option but in the case of str D weapons, your grimoire does nothing and your fmc's are a liability. Bad days ahead.

Side note: can orks legally play looted knights? Or Chaos use traitor knights? I mean outside of "if your opponent agrees."

Its been a rough edition for chaos. 4th wasn't friendly either. It's been a long time since chaos had a top tier codex. **sigh** At least we don't serve the lazyboy zombie psyker.

The four daemon lords are only LoW for Daemons armies per the FW PDF, unless something new has been released otherwise?

The reaver is the best but only in huge games.

The warhound is the best overall with D weapons it is pretty broken. Without D weapons it is still very nasty.

The lord of skulls compares favorably to knights but will go down too fast to any ranged D weapon LoW.

Forgeworld also is releasing IA13 soon which will feature chaos. They are supposed to get knights in that and there looks like there will be a lot of new rules and units (relics similar to SM but warp infused junkers).
