Hi, everyone.
I dabbled with miniatures in my youth but got put off by the cost very quickly. Now I'm quite a bit older and have more money to throw at building up an army.

So far all I've been interested in is collecting and painting models and I'm not sure if I want to go past this point, as I get great joy out of painting them and displaying them (much to my wife's annoyance).

Is there anyone else that collects but doesn't play?

Am I missing out a lot by following this route?

Anyway hope to here from some of you and will be actively lurking around

Steve.

BTW I currently have the Dark Vengeance kit, which have started panting and recently visited Warhammer World and loved the museum.

Welcome to Dakka!

I was much the same as you due to not having a gamestore and friends who didn't 'get it' and I got an awful lot out of the hobby just by painting and modelling miniatures! This way, you're not tied into any one army/race and can buy and paint up whatever catches your eye
So I don't think you're missing out, you are enjoying the hobby exactly how you want to and really, that is what it is all about

Thanks for the reply, must say I do like the fact I can just see a model I like and get t, not having to have it fit into a certain army.

They're plenty of players like yourself. And you're saving yourself a penny or two by not having to buy 2000pts worth of a army to have to throw more money at it to equip them with the right equipment. Although I would suggest playing, you will get great enjoyment fielding the units you have so time painstakingly painted up!

Yeah, I had a wood elf stationed with my Space Marines for years and years and because I liked the model so much (Wood elf lord with great weapon), I got several more for various painting styles and colors. You may even find that in the process of just painting, you'll get bit by the bug to play because, just as Alphabet said, you'll want your favourite model to kick someone else in the man parts, which is what has happened to me very very recently.

Hi,

I'm sure at some stage I will take the plunge and join a game, I'm only just over 20 miles away from Nottingham so it would be rude not too eventually

We have a guy that comes into the local GW and just wants to build a really nice hobbit/LOTR diorama. He has no desire to play it, just wants to paint it and build them.

He's usually in the shop about once a week picking up stuff. I admit some of the hobbit/LOTR stuff looks pretty cool, but I wouldn't be driven to play it as much as the rest of the warhammer stuff.

I'd love to see what his entire hobbit/LOTR setup looks like once it's done.

I do not work for GW in any fashion. When I edit my post, either I've misspelled something, punctuation, or I'm fixing swearing. Oops.
