I've been scoping around a lot lately at fantasy stuff, and one of the fun ideas that comes to mind to add a little uniqueness to an army is to use some of the monsters from Monstrous arcanum.
Namely it would be the night goblins Colossal squig and the soon to be released Squig gobber. I find them pretty amazing and in an army like goblins I don't think I would mind an assortment of big things to take the painting away from mass gobbos.

The only thing I don't get is in a normal game you don't have access to scrolls of summoning, but apparently I can still take monsters in regular games.... But where do I take the points from? I'm ready to assume Rare choice but I'm wondering if I've missed something and they
actually specify or if It can be taken from anywhere? Or if they count outside of the force organization entirely. If not, do they still take away from the maximum of 2 rare choices for an army?

Um, no. You have no opportunity to take monsters from your own Army Book, from whatever section they belong to in that book. If you and your friends are willing to run house rules you could tottally bring the storm of magic rules in and do some fidgeting with how they work.

Unfortunately the official Monstrous Arcanum contradicts that by specifically telling me I can, it just doesn't explain 'how'.

  Automatically Appended Next Post:
Well, doesn't explain how as far as I can see it is almost as though its saying I can use them in addition, but doesn't give them a specific unit slot and I feel that using them without taking points away from other areas, such as rare or special would be unfair.

These are not limited to just Storm of Magic games, however, as the book contains nine scenarios and special rules to allow these deadly creatures to be fielded in regular Warhammer battles, and a helpful appendix chart to allow you to theme your monsters to your army.

It's also present inside of the book as well.

It seems like an oversight by Forge World if they didn't say what section each monster comes from. Maybe check the front of the book a little more to see if there is an obscure paragraph somewhere.

In that case, I'd just treat them as a Rare choice.

Thats the conclusion I am gradually coming too, mostly because it not taking up any slots and being stack-able alongside a full rare slot would be broken lol.

Also in looking at it, you're only allowed two of each creature max, sounds like rare to me.

Ah yeah it does. That does follow the guidelines for rare choices. I guess that's the best indication the book gives as to were the monsters go, rare by restriction association.
