The jet pack entry in the BRB says a jet pack unit can activate their jet pack in the movement phase. Is the movement then equivalent to the jump pack allowing the model to move 12" in the movement phase? And if so does activating the jet pack have any effect on your thrust move in the assault phase? My other question is if it operates similar to the jump pack can it also activate the jet pack in the assault phase (if it didn't already in the movement) to gain hammer of wrath hits?

It still moves 6" in the movement phase but it treats terrain like a jump pack treats it, ignoring it. The answers to all your question in this instance should be in the BRB Under jetpack units.

Jet is completely different to Jump.
You can use Jet in both the Movement and Assault phases of the same turn.
It does not change the distance moved in the Movement phase, just the manner (Skybourne). You move a distance related to the other unit type (Jet Infantry move 6", Jet Cavalry move 12" etc.)
You don't get Hammer of Wrath from being Jet.

See that's what I thought but while watching a bat rep on YouTube the guy moved his crisis suits 12" which made me wonder so I spent a bunch of time trying to track it down. I did read the BRB entry but I still read it and was left with questions. I'm glad to see I was doing it correctly. Thank you for the prompt responses

I have seen it commonly misplayed that way.

You can move your crisis suits up to 12" but only in the assault phase. In the assault phase your crisis suits can move up to 2d6 inches.

You're probably talking about the MWG league episode with the Tau and Nids from not too long ago. That player was very new and got many of the rules involving Tau incorrect.

Just to throw it out there, a reason you might want to not activate your jet pack is if you're going into or out of difficult terrain and don't want to take a dangerous terrain test.

It is a very helpful option, especially on stealth suits who can't afford a wound.

I will like to underline the whole dangerous terrain thing with a cautionary tale: It is turn 1 and you have initiative so you are feeling good about fielding a Full Sniper Drone Squad, with attached ethereal for the fire ability, against some lowly Horde based Imperial Guard. Being a reasonable minded opponent, they have deployed their men as far away from your triple-shooting wall of death as possible. The only answer is to bring that wall of death closer to them, not by much they have the range of anti-tank pieces but it will take at least six inches to get into range of anything. So you eye a nice piece of terrain and decide to jet-pack them right into it, giving them a higher cover save in case someone is left alive to return fire... That is how I lost 4 sniper drones before my opponent even fired a shot....

I never thought of just walking my jet pack units to avoid those rolls... That would have been a good idea... a few games back I moved my commander and the unit he joined into cover. All were wounded from a couple rounds of being targeted and rolled four 1s and whiffed their armour saves losing the entire unit to some trees that "came out of nowhere" :( Automatically Appended Next Post: @mulletdude yeah that's the one I was watching I figured if it was wrong his opponent would have corrected it...

Honestly, given that the rolls now is that you need to roll a 1, then take an armor save? I'd say its not much of a risk, and the assured 6" move in terrain would often be more important then the tiny chance to get hurt.

Statistically it should not happen, but when you take a Jinx and add Probability....
Sometimes best to just walk them in.
