Daemon Prince - Mark of Tzeentch (Nurgle), Wings, Power Armour, Gift of Mutation, Mastery Level 2, Spell Familiar - 295

(Was thinking Tzeentch would be a technically more tactically sound choice, but may take Nurgle simply to stay in line with the Nurgle theme of the army!! )

Chaos Lord - Mark of Nurgle, Gift of Mutation Black Mace - 135

(Taking the black mace purely for fluffy reasons - though I understand it may not be the best use of points tactically)

Helldrake-170

9x plague marines- 2x meltagun - 236

30x Cultists - 130

Rhino - 35

1001

Any advice is welcome

1000 points is too few to bring a daemon prince. He is going to die very quickly unless you hidden him well. The black mace is next to useless on the lord. Better off with the Power fist/Lightning Claw combo. Probably too many cultists for this game.

If you're going to take a daemon prince, you really want to take him with the black mace or as a CD codex DP with a balesword. Otherwise hes a bit of a point sink.

Maybe I'll swap the black mace over to he DP then?

Serg - What would you suggest in it's place if I were to drop it??

I play Undivided, but focus more on Nurgle and Khorne, not saying my army list is the greatest ever so dont rely too heavily on it, but I field:

Typhus

35x Plague Zombies (cultists)
7x Plague Marines, Plasma, Gift of Mutation
7x Plague Marines, Plasma, Gift of Mutation

6x Nurgle Chaos Bikers (T6!), 2 Flamers, Lightning Claw, Gift of Mutation

That's 999 points if I'm not mistaken

I had heard Nurgle Bikes were good - bikes are just so expensive (model-wise) this was supposed to be a semi-cheap starter army!

two boxes of bikes (6 bikes) will run you about the same price as a Heldrake.

I'm pretty sure they're cheaper than the SM bikes, I used to run a squad of three with two flamers for 90 points, so cheap and was a great distraction unit

Apologies, I didn't see the model wise part, all models are expensive model wise really haha, I got three of my bikes from DV which I converted and the other three from the CSM Battleforce

I should have pointed out, I'm using alternative models to GW as much as possible, so a Heldrake I can do a little cheaper, bikes seem to be quite expensive anywhere!!

Right, so I used this list in a game and, whilst I still won (extremely narrowly) I did notice a few things.

1) As you said, the Daemon Prince wasn't worth his points - so I'm going to shave him down, but I don't want to get rid of him completely because he did do quite a lot

2) The Heldrake did nothing. It was useless. So I think I'll probably cut that for the time being

3) The black mace on The Lord actually did quite a bit!! Killed two squads in consecutive turns from close combat alone

4) Cultists didn't do anything of use whatsoever - they just held up a couple of squads for a few turns, good distraction, but not worth the time

So I now have about 375 points to play with!!

Bikes will be top choice and another squad of plague marines - so thanks for the advice!!
