Hi, with a few exceptions (Shining Spears aside) I have at least 10 and 2 exarchs for every aspect warior shrine.

I was wondering what would be a good 1850 Swordwind Army

this is my idea (idea)

HQ
Baharroth,
Maugan Ra

Troops
5 Dire Avengers in Wave Serpent (HF, SC, SL)
5 Dire Avengers in Wave Serpent (HF, SC, SL)

Elites
6 Fire Dragons in Wave Serpent (HF, SC, SL)

Fast Attack
10 Swooping Hawks (Exarch with Hawks Talon)
10 Warp Spiders
10 Warp Spiders

Heavy Support
5 Dark Reapers with Exarch with Fastshot, Flakk, EML

1847

basically Maugan Ra (attaches to Reapers) and the reapers hang about the back, everybody else piles in the front, unload DA for objectives. Swooping Hawks plus IC baharroth use 2 grenade packs on landing plus blind option. Warp Spiders start on board and 2D6 every move

just for completeness if you can repost the army list when you make suggestions it'll make other readers be able to follwo what is good at a glance

Well for 1850 you don't have enough scoring, I would drop maugan ra for a farseer to hang with reapers, also if you drop the Sc from the dragons serpent, you can then take 2 units of x3 jetbikes for late game scoring.

You should be good on AA from guided reapers/spiders/serpents, AT is covered by most of your army so I for see no huge problem I doubt anything short of a grav star will give you a sweat.

The only poor choice that I can see is the inclusion of Baharroth and Maugan Ra. Phoenix Lords are grossly overcosted in the current codex, as they always have been. I would replace both of them with a Farseer and another scoring unit in a Wave Serpent.

If you want to keep the PL and Biel-tan theme, keep one PL and add in a Farseer as one of the best force multipliers in the game. A Jetbike, MotLG and Singing Spear is 160 points, which is a pittance for what you get.

In that case, I'd definitely keep Baharroth. Maugan-Ra is unfortunately the worst PL, I'd say even by far.

Baharroth can be a great distraction with his AOE Blind, coupled with the Exarch's Sunrifle, you can potentially cripple your opponent's gunline on the turn you come in. And you don't scatter when you DS, so it's ridiculously easy to hide them.

With that said, I'd grab a Sunrifle to the Hawk's Exarch and drop the squad to 6. You likely won't ever need more, 6 is just enough for the Large Blast profile of their grenade pack and it becomes much harder to hide them when the squad gets large, which will actually diminish their survivability by adding bodies, not increase it.

You really need scoring bodies. 2 is not enough, not nearly. A squad of Rangers and a squad of min WRJ in addition to your Avengers will get you through any objective mission. Even Swordwind has some guardians around, they're just predominantly Aspect, like Ulthwe is predominantly Guardians and Psykers and Iyanden is predominantly Wraithbone constructs, the fluff never says that's the only people fighting for the craftworld.

Well everyone has had their "remove that fluffy thing it's not good enough" I can say that you have more DA then Dark reapers why not get asurmen instead with his d3 warlord traits? From experience I can say 10 warp spiders is always overkill if you drop them back to 7,8 you'll have enough to get asurmen.(yes I agree maugan ra is looks cooler and has better fluff though)
You are running a bit low on troops though, while I'm guessing you don't have enough dire avengers you could probably proxy in some, bit unless you get rid of baharroth( who's special ability is blinding stuff) I don't think it is possible.

Anyway have fun, enjoy your swordwind list

I second Araenion for the most part. Maugan Ra is pretty bad, and only really works in a 20 man guardian blob with 2 scatter lasers and psyker support. Fluffy, and fairly effective. He is a poor match for his aspect.

A farseer or autarch would be a nice second HQ, but you do need more troops. Taking some bodies from the hawks will help get jetbikes and/or a ranger squad, both great as Araenion pointed out.

hmmm got this advice too late! Just popped back on and I am about to play a fun game in 10 mins (with this list!) I agree with what you are saying all of it, I do have a farseer on jetbike but not fully assembled - but this is a fun game so I don't think we'll be using objectives, I also think this guy I am playing owes me a beating cos he's a better player than me but always lost to me so far.. to be honest I picked the to Phoenix Lords simply because they are the only Phoneix Lord models I have painted, and my friend, he's faced my avatar and got obliterated by it last time so I want to make it a fun (and silly?) shock by not going with an avatar in a Swordwind Theme .. farseer was probably very sensible but didn't fit the theme when I mused it out... anyway I will get back to you how it went

hey back again! played vs orks in trukks.. there were a LOT of orks and nobz on bikes.. the list did "ok" the main man was Maugan Ra held the centre vs 2 charges of 10 melee boyz each and whittled them down to 5 each.. with 2 wounds left.. he was the star and spent the whole game in the middle in melee.. the main problem was the warp spiders got into close combat (they both rolled terribly for movement) becasue there was no lie of sight blocking terrain on the whole board (we used an old hill board, all one slope, all pointing towards me) so verdict? good str6/7 shooting burnt away 2 massive squads of nobz totallying 1000 pts in combination.... the best unit was the wave serpents..the fire dragons had nothing to do... the warp spiders basically acted as charge bait the swopping hawks and baharroth did TERRIBLY didn't wound anything they shot at despite 2 direct hits from pies, 33 shots.. had to use them to tar pit a cheap squad of orks in the end - total waste of points :-( 4 died doing so .. then game ran out.. so "ok" list lots of fire power and mobility sadly lacking in and melee whatsoever ('cept maugan!)
