I recently got a copy of the helbrute dataslate. Can you use the formations in a normal game? Because there doesn't seem to be a disadvantage to doing so, so it seems a bit strange.

The disadvantage is that you have to take Helbrutes.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

True! I'm over a dozen games in with the Deepstrikers... and... they're better, but still suck. If only they got a 5++ too... then they'd be ... balanced?

I'm actually quite impressed with the formations, apart from 1 or 2 (especially the Firebase Support Cadre), they seem to all have their tax units or other restrictions to make up for the bonus rules.

Seconded on the Firebase Support Cadre being poorly balanced.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

I was thinking that helbrutes were OK why does everyone think they suck? Mine has usually done pretty well with its multimelta!

I love using the deepstriking ones. yesterday I had one with a power scurge hold up a wrathknight for 2 turns before dying. And thats worth the few points IMO.

Yeah, GW really screwed up by having the Tau one be so unbalanced *and be first*. It made for a *really* bad first impression about formations. I think if they never released the Tau one, people would have accepted the formations without much issue.

I love the helbrute formations. The only one that's done well for me so far is the helcult, but I want to try taking all three formations sometime soon. Nine helbrutes!!

Helcult is the win, just remember you need to take 2 troop choices OTHER THAN the included cultists since they exist outside the FOC.

Mayhem pack is generally hilarious. Sure they don't get a 5++, but with IWND and other people's general lack of respect for the helbrute they should last a while. And especially since they can DS close enough to get in MM melta range, they don't need to worry about rolling the charge result on the crazed table.
