I'm on the new site looking at Tau and i see two dataslates for pulse cannons and ion rifles...its already in my codex...why are they trying to sell the rules like this?

Dataslates are for formations or characters. What you're looking at are the Munitorum books which are short fluff based books around that weapon or wargear.
