As the title says, this is just a bunch of Salamanders stuff I've been working on. To some extent, all of the mini's below have been somewhat of a learning curve for me. Weather, Blue Armour and tanks were pretty much alien to me before this, as I've never had the time nor money to expand my collection before now. There's more to come, but seeing as I've not posted my work for a while, I thought I'd stick some of it up. As always, C&C is much appreciated, it's great for guiding me in a better direction. So first things first then:

Ignis Gladii - The Fire Swords:

These guys were a little flash of inspiration I had - I thought, instead of buying a box of assault marines for £20, for a little extra work filing off icons, why not get the Death Company box and all the cool gubbins that comes with it? Hence, this squad is armed like a standard Assault Squad, but IMHO the aesthetics are way better than the standard set I have to apologise for the grainy images, I've switched cameras and the light wasn't the best, so the initial results weren't great.

The Sergeant, Kleitus Tor'shol (Bonus cookies for guessing where I got that name!) was great fun to make, utilising the DC hand flamers to make a Pyroclast-esque flame gauntlet (This was before the actual FW Pyroclast's were released). I don't game, and have no plan to, but I like to keep a fluffy and game-legal force, so the gauntlet would just count as a standard power fist.

Nocturne's Wrath:

Onto the next item then - my first ever tank! Having grown sick of painting power armour, I decided to give something bigger a go. So, surfing eBay I found myself a primed, but unpainted Space Wolves Rhino. removing insignia, I set about Salamander-ing it up. Also, this is my first attempt at weathering anything, so C&C would be appreciated in that area. Anyway, onto the imgaes:

I'm quite a fan of Nick Kyme's work expanding the salamander's fluff, so I got myself his latest entry into the HH series - Vulkan Lives. Content aside (Well worth a read though!), I can't help but be stunned by the books cover artwork - so I resolved to replicate it as a devotional fresco on the rear ramp. I'm kinda thrilled at how it turned out, so I'll definitely been looking to do something like this again. Maybe I'll take a look at Promethean Sun...

Epistolary Cinis Sac'erdos

Finally, my third piece of work recently and to date, only my 25th painted model - ever! (Yeah, I work rather slowly :(). Again, searching Ebay, I've realised that the Dark Vengeance Librarian Turmiel crops up rather alot. Having no Librarian in my force (and having never painted blue before) I decide that this would be a prime opportunity to expand my repertoire of painting techniques (The blue), on a rather inexpensive model. Needless to say, it was always going to need to be converted to a more Salamanders specific scheme - I just hope I've pulled it off well enough. Once again, bonus points for deciphering the name :

I thought I'd put that last image in just for a better view of the face. I try to avoid faces as I'm not great at painting and my faces often end up badly. It's even worse considering they're Salamanders so I can't find any tutorials for how to paint them properly!

So there we are - hope you enjoy them and, if you want, please leave some feedback - positive or otherwise, I'm good for all

Everything looks great. I love the smooth paints and the dynamic posing of the models.

Wow, they all look great. Even more so when you say you have only painted 25 models(?).

Flames along the chain sword..? Never seen that before, and it fits really well. You ability to paint flames is great, I especially like the flames on the libby's cloak.

One small gripe; the tactical arrow on the back of the Rhino looks top heavy. The '<' part looks to big for the '-' part.

@Darth Bob - Cheers, I try to make them look as if they're doing something, rather than just the generic stances seen on the box Mind you, the DC box really lends itself to this - just one more reason why it's better

@Zambro - Yup, I've only ever painted 25 Warhammer 40K models. The only other models I've painted before this were some old Ancient Greeks when I was roughly 9 yrs old - they were abysmal (I think there may be one in my gallery?) Regarding flames - One cannot simply have *too* many flames when painting Salamanders I do agree that the Rhino arrow is a bit off. Having never done it before, I tried to use the same spacing used in one of the Citadel guides (The tank one?), but you're right in that it looks off - I'll mark it down as something I need to improve upon. Thanks for the advice

Turning the BA icons into flames was not only a good idea, but one you've executed brilliantly. Great paint jobs to boot!

Great work, overall brilliant quality as a whole, though the flames are pretty poor in shape.

@sockwithaticket - Yeah, that was kind of by nessecity. When I cut off the blood drops, it would have left a flat drop in it's place. So I settled on GS-ing flames in their place. I wasn't so sure they'd turned out well, so it's nice to hear that others think they have.

@Floyd73 - Cheers I always like to get a little something in on my models, makes them more realistic in some respects.

@handmadebuffalo - Thanks for the constructive C&C (And I'm not being sarcastic here - I genuinely mean it ) If you don't mind my asking, what is it that you dislike about the flames - it'll help me improve in future...

Don't doubt yourself when painting faces I am not really good my self but the librarian looks great.

@ Bane - Thanks for the encouragement! I possibly chose the deep end when I started of with Salamanders. Due to their obsidian black skin (or at least that's the fluff I like), I find it really hard to get contrasting highlights in. With other skin tones, I gather you can get a range in, but I find it hard to pick out facial features in black on this scale. I was rather pleased at the subtle OSL around the eyes though. Despite my worrying, that bit at least turned out Ok.

Great work mate, brilliant eyes on the librarian. Nice, realistic light weathering and I really like the free hand artwork on the back of the rhino. Awesome

I love seeing Salamanders and these are well modeled and painted! Greatest compliment is I had to google the Death Company pictures to see where you'd removed iconography.
