A very simple board (a sheet) some bunkers a friend knocked together, alongside some sandbags and we had ourselves a fun holiday (not much stuff game). We were using a mix of minis..most of mine are converted krieg and chaos was using an old unpainted army he had lying around...sadly not his new painted raptors and noise marines!
The idea was a 2000pt DkoK assault brigade versus a 2000pt CSM force on vraks. The CSM were rolling down the trench lines before coming into contact with a krieg counterpush by mechanised assets, cavalry and a couple of platoons. We had fought the game sidewise down the board and the CSM player had two dread claws (models at home so two cups...for shame) which he could assault out of. Each single bunker was one VP, the large bunker 2VP and included slay the warlord and line breaker. We houseruled that vps were counted at the end of the game.
My mechanised force consisted of
HQ
1ccs, carapace, 2xmelta, meltabombs
Elite
1vanq command tank, hvy bolter, lascannon, co-axial HS
1exterminator command tank, heavy bolters, pintle hvy stubber
Troops
2x platoons; 1pcs x2 flamers, 2xinf x2flamers, 3xmeltabombs
Fast attack
1 rr platoon: 5x rough rider squads
HVY
1 leman russ
1 leman russ
1 executioner, lascannon, hvy bolters, pintle hs.
That's roughly it. Fighting a army consisting of waves of cultists led by a dark apostle, a vindicator, a raptor squad, a dinobot (the one with the melta cutters) on the board! Off board was a large termie squad, a oblit squad, a raptor squad and 2x8 beserkers in dreadclawS.
A fearsome proposition for the stoic men of krieg. Blood would be spilled!
Narrative battle report
On a holothic display a series of runes embedding in the western depression went out. Vanished. A whole section of line gone.
The general, his voice hoarse from bellowing at underlings working frantic vox calls, spoke some short orders. His strained eyes set down on the blinking light a couple of clicks to the rear with the legend '31st armoured battalion-221st siege regiment'. New orders issued and within seconds the icon was blinking it's way toward the gap. Behind it new forces moved into position sealing off the broken line and readying for a countercharge. All that was needed was a few hours to gather the resources.
50clicks away a body of men had gathered. Trained trench raiders moved into position, steadying their weapons. Five leman russes with a mixture of battlecannon, plasma and autocannon warmed their engines. They began to roll forward, gaining momentum.
High atop his cupola on the relic vanquisher 'Mortua ferrox' colonel 92 was quick to move his assets into a wide dispersion. Orders had set him on an attack vector, one which he would refuse to enter unless on a oblique movement. He had enough firepower in his five Leman Russ to make a mockery of anything these rebels could throw at him.
Within minutes his forces had passed down into the trench lines moving sideways whilst under smoke barrage to their right, protecting their sides from the enemy. The trenches were curiously empty. Within minutes his patrols were reporting lasguns and rebreathers stacked in the trenches and the remnants of biological matter. His mind raced. What bioweapon could dissolve whole squads of chem-reinforced guardsmen?
His answer was not long in coming. Striding out of the mist far to the front near bunker complex 28b came a ragged procession of renegade PDF. Behind them he spotted two large trucks carrying what appeared to be cannisters. A simple yet brutal tactic he quickly voxed back the information to headquarters. The enemy now had access to potent chem weapons. He noted with shame that they carried looted lasguns...this outrage must be avenged. slamming down the cuppola hatch he issued orders to engage!
Powerful concussive explosions erupted within the ragged ranks, plasma, autocannon shell, heavy bolters..the full arsenal of the tank squadron under his command eviscerated the front row. Amongst the masses a glittering figure in golden power armour strolled. Around him a nimbus of light protected him from the worse of the conflagration. Untouched, the golden figure reached down. Stroking the faces of his dying men. Cradling them with his transhuman hands, snapping necks and tearing intestines. Haranguing survivors. Daubing blood on the flesh of the living in esoteric patterns.
'heretic' the colonel spat.
Despite the barrage of fire the renegade troopers had made their way into the trench and bunker complex changing the nature of the fight. Krieg infantry rushed to engaged and close range bayonet and lasgun fighting began to take there bloody toll. This was a fight his men were made to win an within moments several of the prefab bunkers were in their hands.
A roar took his attention away from the vicious melee erupting below his tank...from the mist staggered a large creature, mechanised yet biological. Four limbs supported an elongated head, topped by a daemonic visage. Its massive arms carried potent melta cutters. By the throne it moved Fast! he knew enough of the Vraks campaign to spot the sorcery of the arch enemy and realised that he would need to concentrate his firepower on the target.
'Load the cannon!' he bellowed! If a vanquisher shell couldn't defeat this giant robotic monstrosity then the assault could be doomed!
It then the arch-enemy trap closed.. .the screeching whine of retrothrusters alerted him to the drop pods crashed into his line disorientating the first wave. Drop pods! Astartes! Panic gripped the colonel, until now he had fought mainly human renegades with the odd champion. But drop pods...one of the renegade chapters of...he shuddered...traitor legions had taken an interest in Vraks. Before the thought had even left his mind he viewed butchery as red armoured forms twice the size of an average man came roaring from the folded petals of the pod. Swinging massive over-sized chain axes they dismembered guardsmen with each swipe. Bellowing a quick order his tanks turrets traversed and began firing.
The Astartes needed terrible wounds to bring down and each time a tank fired, guardsmen got caught up in the blast. Missing limbs and shattered the red forms still brought down guardsmen, some even removing their helmets and using their ferocious jaws to rend. The firepower barely dented the screaming skull taking hordes and despite their ragged appearance and dented power armour they soaked up the shot. It was then his eyes were drawn front.
Seemingly emerging from the mud in front clambered two mechanical beasts in the shape of giant men. Superficially they resembled the traitor Astartes, but magnified. With horror he watched as limbs began to distort and where before they had armored gauntlets they now possessed lascannon...
The exterminator to his right threw it's track. To his left a leman russ sustained a shot from a vindicator bearing blasphemous runes that emerged from the chemical haze. His own ancient vehicle rocked under lascannon shot but it's blessed hull withstood the blasts, it's gunner shaken.
'I need reinforcement! Now!' the colonel ordered his voxcaster to broadcast.
It was then a line of riders appeared behind the tanks. Emerging from the mists like spectres from a astral hunt they rode. Slowly at first, but then catching up speed as they galloped toward the arch enemy cleaving its way through the guard. Deathriders! Like a lance into a boil they collided and with sharp explosions and the whine of horses they rode over the astares wiping them from the face of the earth.
The colonel was interrupted by the shouts of his gunner. He had a shot loaded and primed. Chanting the blessed incantations he lined up his shot and the bio-mechanical demon was brought down, it's shrieks echoing across the battlefield. The executioner turned it plasma blastgun and in a sustained maelstrom of fire saw the mechanical warriors evaporate..or returned to whence they came. The field was starting to turn. Another battlecannon shot saw a whole squad of swooping jet pack troops annihilated. Still the toll on his men was astronomical and it was quickly obvious that the renegades had seized most of the objectives. They were pouring a ferocious hail of auto and las shots into the Krieg, who were now pinned behind a line of sandbags.
Ordering his tanks to turn their fire on the command bunker, a series of well placed shots cleared it out enabling the remnants of second platoon to take cover. Despite the renegade advantage the Colonel had bought time. He couldn't take these objectives but he had prevented a complete route. The chaos attack had been blunted.
Summary
Chaos deployed first and gained first turn. He spaced three huge (40mini's in each) squads of cultists covering a vindicator. In amongst one of the squads was a dark apostle placed to give two of the squads fearless. I deployed in a line trying to maximise my tanks coverage of the enemy and try and counteract his deepstrikers.
Turn 1: Chaos ran forward and covered his heavy vehicle from my vanquisher. For a large army he was very adept at giving his troops cover saves (damn no barrage) on such a sparse board. Dkok tanks went 6, my troops covered the front and/or rear of the tanks from charging whilst two squads moved into the trench network toward the objectives. The Krieg in the open ran behind the tanks to use them as mobile cover. The Exterminator failed dangerous terrain and became stuck. Teach me for not taking dozerblades.
Turn 2: Chaos, all his deepstrikers arrived. His dinobot rushed onto the table. He placed a terminator squad with combi melta's near my exterminator. A large squad of raptors near a LR and two deadclaws disgorged two squads of khorne beserkers into two krieg squads. Oblits also placed near LR. Overkill I thought. Other than beserkers everything fudged their rolls bad enough to scatter miles off target. Due to my placement near table edges with both flanking tanks he was scared of scattering off the board. This meant his firepower was diluted. Missing everything and causing one hull point on the LR. The vindicator destroyed the heavy bolter on the exterminator that couldn't see. His cultists shot long range at my Krieg and caused few casualties. Krieg, my rough rider platoon arrived and set themselves up to perform a turn three charge. troops moved further into the bunker complex pushing back cultists. Two squads formed cordons on the Beserkers. My executioner arrived and annihilated a terminator squad with help from the exterminator. A leman russ annihilated a squad of raptors. My vanquisher took a hullpoint off the vindicator
Turn 3: Chaos moved every cultist forward and consolidated his control over the bunkers. His Khorne beserkers wiped out another squad and my command squad (banner of martyrdom saved me). His cultists wiped more guardsmen. That firefight was fun and nasty amongst sandbags. His oblits blew the turret off a leman russ. But his deepstrikers had caused enough carnage to slow down my charge and ensure I didn't take more bunkers. He was unlucky not to destroy more tanks, Deep strike is a gamble with so many elite and expensive units.
Krieg: The infantry continued to advance into the bunker complex taking and giving heavy casualties. They broke one of the cultist squads, the others were fearless like them. The roughriders (all 25 of them) killed both khorne beserker squads and followed up toward the cultists. The tanks annihilated everything in the open. Dinobot=dead. Vindicator=dead. The exterminator failed on the oblits.
Turn 4: Chaos consolidated into the bunkers and hunkered down. His shots with the oblits failed to destroy the executioner. His cultists continued in the meat grinder with the korpsmen inflicting more casualties.
Krieg: The exterminator, vanquisher, one leman russ emptied out on the command bunker destroying with the Krieg platoon troops the remaining cultists allow them to take the objective. The executioner did it for the oblits.
Turn 5: Chaos hunkered down and fought off a determined tank and infantry thrust on his bunkers. The rough riders couldn't get at the men inside so tried to get line breaker and failed. With four units moving cav and then bad run rolls. Chaos had a close victory! Final score: chaos vp 6 Dkok vp 5
Thanks for reading. Next battle will have chaos defend a trench line against the Krieg. Will take more higher quality shots! Sorry for the quality of these, although they are our spare mini's! Good holiday game though.

Those bunkers look lovely. Props to your friend for building them. Now hit the shop, get some sand spray paint and a sand colored cloth and voila! Cool battlefield in 5 minutes.

After the conclusion of the previous game the chaos player finds himself in control of the bunker complex...he was quick in repurposing them to repel my 2500pt counter thrust (with a free malcador defender) with 2500pts of his own.
So the setup for the next game consists of a lengthwise game with chaos manning the defenses at one end and a whole table to cover for the imperial attackers. Damn. The bunkers represented the sole objectives barring slay the warlord. They will all only be counted at the end of the final turn which should hopefully set the game up for a slog and close quarter match. Four bunkers equal 1vp and the large command bunker to the rear was 2vp.
My reasoning was that I could outclass the chaos player with sheer firepower at range and in my opinion the chaos list has little to no dedicated anti-tank that works against AV14. If he deepstrikes oblits or raptors my infantry should handle them but worst case I lose 4-5 tanks (that's a sentiment only an imperial general can understand) whilst the points sink it represents means my charge will run into less firepower..
So my list consisted of;
1 command squad, carapace, 2xmeltagun, meltabombs, banner of martrydom.
Troops: 2 platoons of 1pcsX2 flamers, meltabombs 3xinfantry squads x3 flamers, meltabombs
Fast attack: 5xroughriders, 2xhellhounds
Heavy: 2x leman russes, 2x medusa (squadroned)
Elite: 1 vanq, command tank, lascannon, co-axial, hvy bolters
1 exterminator, heavy stubber pintle, hvy bolters
And a free malcador with lascannons! (because he has defenses and I have a table to cover).
NOTE: I didn't take colossus siege mortars because I thought it may make the opponent rage quit as he is fielding mainly space marines in static defence....he is a good player and it was a good natured 'try vraks type set up' game.
Against them was two large raptor squads, two large 40 cultists squads, a havoc squad with lascannon/autocannon, a havok squad with mixed lascannon/missile launcher, two large noise marine squads. His chaos lord was a raptor as well...
And something I have never fought; 1 forgefiend with ecto-nonsense.
Not a lot of long range firepower to combat my rolling wall of death. So my plan was to trundle forward with tanks and shoot things till they die. Troops pour forward and flood the enemy trenches. They would be covered by a charge of the light brigade style assaultaccompanied by two hellhounds . Death or glory!!
Will write a narrative and standard style battle report. Here are some pics of our holiday game with whatever is to hand.
Turn one: Not alot happened. I moved and ran everything I could and shot my LR at the bunker complex. A few cultists died.
Turn two: Chaos fudged all reserve rolls, blew one hellhound to pieces with the havoks and the cultists nailed one Death rider at range. Dkok ran everything that could run, meaning that the Death riders were around 17'' from the front row. A hellhound incinerated ten cultists from the trenches and moved into cover. The LR fired everything at the havoks and killed most of them in both squads. I sent one of my rough rider squads on a sneaky flanking attack on a undefended part of the line..
Turn 3: He passed reserve rolls for two of his huge noise marine squads and one raptor squad. He fudged the rolls for the ecto-dinobot and the other raptor squad. He placed noise marines inside the command bunker which I thought a little silly but it did give them a 3+cover save. The raptors made their way into cover. He then blasted everything the cultists had at the death riders and killed another 3 and his understrength havoks failed to hit the hellhound...Dkok moved the wall of death forward (not quite within demolisher range) and then shot. Most of the squads within the bunkers got nailed by battlecanon, medusa, vanq and exterminator shots. He was very unlucky with his saves. A raptor squad was vaporised by a stray medusa shell followed up by a hellhound torrent leaving one left. My roughriders lost three more horses to overwatch and failed their charge.
Turn 4: Ecto-dinobot rolled a one. Unlucky. Next raptor squad flew in hiding behind the main bunker. He unloaded on the rough riders killing one. He unloaded with sonic blasters and killed two more. Dkok rolled forward and literally obliterated the command bunker squads. The apostate (sorry heretic space marine chaplain dude) was blown skyhigh by two medusa's when he failed his look out sirs. His cultists began to flee and where charged and ridden down by the death riders. Two squads still carried their hunting lances. My troops were within the front trenches and my Malcador and leman ruses began to scale the sandbags.
Turn five: Another one. No ectoplasm Dinobot. Gutted. Suffice to say at close range my tanks, rough riders and guardsmen annihilated the opposition. Not a single Krieg trooper died, the heaviest hit were the death riders down to 15 from 25 men. One hellhound destroyed (I'm sure my cogboys will salvage that) Honour restored.

So the next game involved another chaos player...my GF. she's running a iron warrior-nightlord warband (nicer looking than my badly painted lot). The game was on a small amount of my necromunda scenery and involved paper markers representing the launch control systems to a planetary defence laser. Chaos and IG had rushed forces to contest. Will write a battle rep when I'm done and post the rest of the pictures. In short a draw. Bolter fire on gantries wipes entire platoons off the board. Thank god krieg don't run.

Literally one of my favourite scenario's.
Using my time honoured tactic of 'look how hard medusae are! St10! Large blast! Ignore my waves of meltabomb carrying guardsmen' I was able to literally expend over 200 guardsmen on suicidal frontal attacks. What did comrade stalin say? Quantity has a quality all of its own. Lone guardsmen accounted for almost all of the necron vehicles and elite with the massive maynark warrior phalanxs being ground down by sustained heavy mortar and basilisk fire.
Battle report to follow.

Fighting the ork amongst the ruins of a desert encampment....battlewagon and trukk rush, vicious close quarter combat and a mob of nobs with 'eavy armour, doc (FnP) and a magic ability to make every ID 'splosion scatter full distance. And have the warlord with PK in the middle!
A vicious fight that went down to a 1vp difference due to not grabbing the dkok unstoppable advance objective.
