Planning to start necrons soon, and this is the list I came up with, I was just wondering if this is a decent enough list?

HQ:
1 Overlord (Warscythe, MSS, Weave)

Elites:
1 Triarch Stalker [basic]

Troops:
10 Warriors
10 Warriors
(Or 5, 5, 5, 5)
1 Ghost Ark

Fast Attack:
5 Scarabs

Heavy Support:
3 Annihilation Barges [Gauss Option]

Expanding on this:
To start I will get a base of a battle force and barge kit, its what I get after that which I am not sure about, another Battleforce maybe? or the 2 Barge - Stalker that I have here?

Eventually I will probably just get another battle force either way, just to complete the 10 immortals, and have 40 warriors available etc. But should I do that sooner rather than later and get the Barges and Stalkers later?

[Basic: Battleforce - 1 Barge]
[Additions: 2nd Battle force -vs- 2 Barges and Stalker]

For fast attacks I was thinking Destroyers and 2 scarab units.

Also, what is your opinions of kitbashing the Lych / Prae kit with Deathmarks to make Crypteks? I am assuming I can just get 5 barges eventually and run them as basic Lords, then get Trazyn / Nemesor + Obyron as HQ

I am new to 40k I played 6th edition Fantasy and have played 2 games as Imperial Guard in 6th edition 40k to learn the game a bit, so I figured I would ask here for opinions!

My friends are all getting into the hobby and here is what they will be playing if it helps:

Space Marines / Chaos - Only established army player that I know.
He has pretty much every model in both armies minus Land Raiders, he likes to run heavy combi weapon and mega point HQs from what I have seen, hates plasma weapons and keeps offering me "useless" dark vengeance angels when I tell him that's what I would take, though... he does take combi plasma...

Dark Eldar - Veteran to 40k but building army from scratch. has tonnes of older dark eldar from 3rd or 4th. Mainly warriors and transports.
I think he wants to avoid wytches and go with a more warrior heavy game with transports, keeps telling me how he will wipe out veichles with his transports or something.

Tyranids - Veteran Nid player. has LOTS of them from 2nd edition and onward.
Just bought a massive swarm box and a tonne of new big nasty looking nids, given that it is a horde army I think tesla destructors will be good for this guy.

Necrons - Veteran to 40k but building army from scratch.
Phalanx Necrons I think, says that scarab swarms are useless so he will give me his, Holds warriors in super high regards and probably plans to spam lords with orbs too.

Tau - New player
Has no idea about how to play or anything to do with 40k, just picked up tau because he liked the look, has battleforce and wants a riptide - pathfinders. i hear they are strong at the moment, so could be tricky either way.

Thanks guys!

Yes, that is a fine list. I am not a fan personally of the Triarch Stalker, but if you like the model purchase it. Or buy a couple of Wraiths or a Nightscythe ( I think they're the same cost).

A Thing to note about your annihilation barges, look online for the easy guide to easily switching these out from a Overlord on a Command Barge and a Annihilation Barge.

DO NOT BUY A SEPERATE NECRON OVERLORD, IF YOU PURCHASE ANNIHILATION BARGES.

The kit comes with them so you'll have 3 Necron Overlord models.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

Bear in mind that scarabs are only there for cannon fodder and eating vehicles, so one unit of six will do fine. Good as they are, don't take 3 barges. Assemble the battleforce's ark as a Doomsday ark and get a Night Scythe as a transport. It's more expensive but more than worth it. When expanding your army, definitely get some Lychguard and a Despairtek to deal some disappearing CC confusion. It immediately locks down every army's playing style except vehicle-heavy lists.

Unless your up against army's like grey knights, that list won't work very well. My option for 1000 Pts is this:

HQ
Overlord with war scythe and ressurection orb
Harbringer of despair with veil of darkness

Troops
20 warriors
10 immortals

Elites
5 lychguard

Fast attack
6 scarabs

Transport
Night scythe
