With the new codex out, I‘ve been working at shining up my old valhallan regiment and adding to it where I can.

The one thing I have had a hard time finding is the old metal mortars, for which I have the crew, but after moving two or three times, the mortars themseles disappeared. I could use the new plastic ones, but I much prefer the look of the older ones. Does anyone know of a good replacement/substitute?

I tried scratch building some, but they did not turn out well.

Honestly if you want to keep the same aesthetic id just look at ebay for them. Usually you can find them pretty cheap, sometimes without crew. Mortars seem the least desired heavy weapon so they're less than lascannons usually. I probably have 1 at least I'm not using if you want it for a decent price

I have actually tried ebay, the cheapest I‘ve seen them go for is about $15-$25 each, and once you add shipping it becomes too expensive to justify. Really I just need something that‘s a close match, unlike the new plastic mortar.

Edit: naturally, immediately after posting this I found a whole mess of them for $5 each...

On a related subject, I know there are a wealth of WW2 models out there, but has anyone found a good sniper model that would mesh well with a valhallan regiment?

Both quality and cost are considerations

For a sniper, you could get some Pilotka heads from Mad Robot Minis (http://madrobotminiatures.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=9_10&products_id=67)
And then use the long coat legs and the sniper rifle from the IG command squad. That would fit Vahallans pretty well, I think.

Thanks, those could actually work pretty good.

Does anyone know of any other options? It would be nice to have some prone models to. Choose from as well (similar to the old cadian snipers)

what i did for one of my snipers is i took a set of running legs from the cadian squad box and set them laying down on a bike base and then attached the torso on all that, ill try and get a picture for you

You can also pretty easily make them yourself. Just look at the diameter of those giant mortars shells valhallans are toting and buy yourself a piece of brass, aluminum, or plasticard tubing that is of roughly the right size. Then chop down one of the plastic mortars and add the bitz to the piece of tube.

With even just the bottom hemisphere/base plate and the tripod thing, it will look as much of a mortar as you could possibly need. And you'd get a bit more experience converting stuff to boot.
