I'm looking to build a small Catachan City Rebellion Force to ally with my Space Marines. Unfortunately, I do not have the codex and I've never own an Imperial Guard detachment. I honestly have no clue if this is even themed or legal to field. Let me know what you guys think.

Sorry but the list isn't legal. Harker can only join a vet squad.

Ok what would you all recommend? I'm looking for a gorilla style force to be allies with my Marines in a city style board. Would like to keep it reasonably fun but not to much fun to make it completely uncompetitive. Catachen look awesome and I think the fit the bill for a 'rebel' type force.

I think if you went with a "elite" force of veterans with Forward Sentries and Harker that'd make sense and still be pretty competitive.
I'd also consider Ratlings. Those are pretty cool.

Astra Milituram HQ Colonel Straken Troops Catachan Platoon Command Squad w/Chimera Platoon w/Beefy Sarg Platoon w/Sergeant Harker Elites Scions Platoon Command Squad w/Taurox Prime Scion Platoon Squad w/Valkyrie I would try and take advantage of Straken's relentless special rule. Get a heavy weapon in the CCS for a BS4 heavy weapon, maybe some snipers too (since they're so cheap now!). Use the Forwards for the Emperor command to your other units to allow them to shoot and then move, even with heavy weapons. Or you can move, issue the command, and have your scions shoot and then run, a great way to keep your fire support close to your advancing marines. If you want veteran guerillas, I'd get veterans with the forward sentries upgrade. You'll get +1 to cover saves, and enemies don't get bonus attacks for charging (from snare mines). This makes them great for holding onto that objective or that cover and denying it from the enemy, great scoring units while your marines root out the enemy. Depending on the role you want, trick them out with special weapons and heavy weapons. Ratlings have the bonus to cover saves and can automatically fire and then run, essentially allowing them to move on every turn while shooting, so they'd also fit in well.

Not to be a party-pooper, but wouldn't a good call be to get the codex before making the army?
|
Note to the reader: my username is not arrogance. No, my name is taken from the most excellent of commanders: Lord Castellan Creed, of the Imperial Guar- I mean Astra Militarum - who has a special rule known only as "Tactical Genius"... Although nowhere near as awesome as before, it now allows some cool stuff for the Guar- Astra Militarum - player. FEAR ME AND MY TWO WARLORD TRAITS. |

Thanks guys. I wanted to get a feel for what others think because I've never own or played guard before. I do plan on buying the codex before the army but still wanted to get the theme going. Is there anyway to make catachan look "veteran" like by kit bashing or is there a box out there for them like that?
