So after owning the two starters for these races for a while, some interest was starting to come up in club so I decided to paint them both. With that done, I was asked if I could do a demo game today by a friend and also to show the game to other members.
I took the Mortans whilst Rich took the Troglodytes for a spin. After some time checking out the item cards and choosing what we wanted, we set up. A turn later we were jockeying for position in the middle of the board not wanting to be the one to charge.
Next turn, Rich advanced to within charge range of my Legionaries. Not wanting a drawn out game and wanting to show how the mechanics work, I charged in after buffing up the Legionaries with the Centurion's Ancestral Pride and Pilum Assault. The assault killed a Troglodyte and left another badly wounded, but the foul Trogs fought back and killed two brave Legionaries.
Now, I lack a photo for the few events, but it wasn't pretty. The Trogs attacked the Legionairies who finished off the wounded Trog, but lost one of their number. The Trog Chieftain then decided to handle them personally and charged in, killing two of the Mortans, leaving one to stand alone against the Trog onslaught. Not wanting to allow the the feral beast at the back to also join this fray, the Princeptor charged it and dealt an incredible amount of damage to it, managing to avoid most of the return damage with parry.
Realising now how dangerous the Princeptor was, the Chieftain went back to deal with him before he could kill the feral, leaving the Ironhide leader alone with the Legionary. Sadly, the Princeptor's parry did not save him from the monstrosity.
Spotting his chance for heroism, the courageous Centurion bravely emerged from the shadow of the pigsty, walked up to the Ironhide brute and ran him through. At this point, the Troglodytes decided to try and bribe the Mortans off, but it was not accepted.
At this point, the fearless Centurion knew there was only one gallant action to do, and so buffed the lone Legionary and ran off back behind the pigsty (to the amusement of onlookers).
Unfortunately, the Legionary-torpedo tactic didn't work, and the poor man bounced off the Feral and fell on his own pilum. At this point, realising it was literally just him left, the valiant Centurion came out from his pigsty and challenged the Chieftain and Feral to combat. They obliged and attacked, the Feral being cut down in a single attack. The combat between the Chieftain and Centurion was long and bloody, but in the end there had to be a victor, and a loser.
Very fun game that, even if I did lose
Several people came over to watch, and a few professed an interest in the system. Apparently we're going to have 6 or so players in the local club, so all the factions will hopefully be evident.
And here are pictures of the models:
