I haven't played 40k since 5th edition, and now that the new "Imperial Guard" codex has been released, I'm thinking about getting back into it. I'd like to try a themed army: If I can't make it move by treads, wheels, or wings, I'm not very interested in taking it. The new league I'm about to get into are a mixed bag of all different racial armies and varying levels of competitiveness (from casual to people who will fly long distances to make it into tournaments). I personally would like to win at least half the time but I have no intention of ever entering a GW-sponsored tournament. So without further ado:

Maybe consider swapping plasmas for HF's or Melta's

If you have one, I'd probably swap one devil dog out for a valkyrie with rocket pods (same price). Dropping two large blasts a turn

With 20 points, you can throw storm bolters on your Devil Dogs. Also, now that bolt pistols are 1 point, I'm getting them for all of my vet sargeants.

Best bet, might be to get camo netting on your tank commander. Just to make him even harder to hit, especially behind cover.

A guy I played yesterday ran a pretty mean list against me. I don't know his exact points breakdown but it was this.

Tank commander with 3 leman Russ squad.
3 basilisks on a sky shield.
Psykers for divination.
chimeras no idea what was in them
manticore and he brough a death strike missile for lulz.

Thanks for all the advice and comments so far, guys! Definitely going to consider everything said as I tweak my list. My first game won't be for a while because I need to build the rest of the models I need, but it's nice to know what I'm building towards in the meantime.
