I am trying to decide which board to make and im thinking city of death or WWI style trench board; any thoughts? (I wasn't sure were to put this post sorry if it should be somewhere else)

I have my realm of battle game board done up as a field and I wish I had done it as a desolated city or something more in line with 40k and less fantasy.

The tiles sold by forgeworld can also be a good inspiration for where you want to go. You dont necessarily need to buy one. But they can give you some different ideas

You can really never go wrong with either, but cities of death allows for a lot of characterful dioramas.

I've decided on trench but can I put the trenches in the board not on dirt mounds.

Using 2" foam, you can build up the board surrounding the trench and even make a berm.

The tutorial is for building a lava field but the principle is the same; you just cut the foam to make a trench system instead of lava channels.

Alternatively, if money is no object, you can hunt down the OOP Forge World trench system and buy that.

Yup. It's easy. Just find a hot wire cutter and some foam. Lay the foam out on the table, fitting them all against each other.

Now, with a marker map out where the trenches will be. Give it some thought. You may want other things on the board like dirt roads or bunkers or maybe GW kits.

Then slowly cut along the lines, and viola! All that's left is to add any details and paint it.
