I will be updating this thread continuously throughout the next month with consistent WIP shots.

Currently I am not quite sure what colour scheme to paint it.

Looking more towards a behemoth type colour scheme, but I am open for suggestions.

I really enjoy Menelker's work, his Carnifex is absolutely amazing.

That would be more towards the colour scheme I have my eye on.

Got potential to be pretty cool, Just make sure it dosent end up being neon orange.
Neon color schemes feel kinda overdone to me

@Wiiffler I definitely will be dulling it down to a red gore/orange - highlight orange, much like Menelker did. I don't mean to make it look overly realistic though.

Hmmm.... Looks good on paper. Honestly it's hard to go wrong painting nids. Ironically the only color scheme I've seen and didn't like is Behemoth. They look like happy meal toys.

But this color scheme looks good to me.

@Quarterdime Thanks for the vote of confidence on my colour scheme. I definitely don't plan to make them look like toys. The black on orangish red neon look doesn't suit me either. Hopefully I can make everything come out the way I see it in my head.

Going to the store tomorrow to pick up some paints. WIP pictures will be updated soon.

I've seen lots of pics of Menelker's work and I'm super impressed with how he paints the bone and armour plates. It's just awesome. If you're looking for a different scheme feel free to take a peek at my images of tyranids. I've got a bright, colourful scheme in play based on a poisonous snake. No where near the calibre of paint job of Menelker, but if you're looking for various paint scheme ideas can't hurt to look, and take inspiration from nature.

@Disdamn I love your Hive Tyrant/Swarm Lord, the back carapace is very vivid. I enjoy the greens a lot, they really pop especially with the black edging.

I will be posting some test models up soon, just to see what you guys think, what I should change, etc.

After painting some test models, the colour scheme has ended up a bit too halloweeny for my tastes. It came out less natural than I would like. I will definitely be looking into other fields of colour. I may try a few more different techniques, it seems I need to work on my line work. I have never truly enjoyed painting Tyranid as I found it overly complicated. I must challenge myself though, and doing a few more test models may change my opinion.

@Disdamn Nature is a very good inspiration, I should have followed your advice previous to my experiments Not all is bad though, I have more than enough paint variations to select a new palette. Black stands out as too unnatural for my tastes to be a primary colour for the carapace. The Emerald Tree Boa has always been one of my favourite snakes, so I may end up going with the exact opposite of your Tyranids. White for the carapace and green for the body.

sounds great. I remember when I was working out my scheme I did some internet searches for colourful snakes, frogs, and crustaceans.

I had narrowed the selection down to the boomslang snake, blue poison dart frog, Palawanese crab or the Sally Lightfoot Crab. I ultimately put down a bill of materials for the paints I'd need to buy for each vs what I already had in stock and ended up going with the boomslang because I only needed to buy a few extra colours. But there's lots of great animals in nature to take inspiration from

@Disdamn You picked some really interesting animals, most I didn't know. The Blue Poison Dart Frog was my favourite, such an amazing pattern on it's back.

Google is fantastic for coming up with things you've never heard of before. I had no idea either. I just knew I wanted something colourful so I started googling colourful this, and colourful that and checking out pictures.

the blue poison dart frog is really amazing. It'd take some talent to do it justice. I would love to see someone pull it off
