Tesla Immortals are only 170 pts.
Even with the 10 pt deduction, you're at 1007. If you're headed for a tournament with point checkers like me, you're gonna have to drop 1 Warrior to get you to 994.
At which point you could decide to stick, or reduce something and add something in. This is where the Necron codex
IMO becomes interesting, because you are forced to decide between expensive
Hq options and 1 extra troop here, or 1 extra fast attack there. Good luck man!

Also foot slogging can be an issue against Tau, they like to fire and ignore cover and they have quite a bit that can fire in a single turn which can really mow down your troops.
For these reasons, a Night Scythe, which is both a transport and the has the strongest Tesla weapon in the codex (I think), but obivously does not have the Death Ray (a good weopon against horde armies but not necessarily against vehicle-heavy armies like Tau, and a FUN weapon in any circumstance). For 75 points less. If Interceptor fire (or any fire) destroys your Night Scythe, your units hop right back into reserves, because Necrons have NWM like that.
That's a full unit of scoring Warriors, and change I think for some kinda 5 point upgrade???
Death Rays are cool and strong, but sorta gimmicky, and they work better in 2's in higher point games than 1000.
(ICI: If anyone has ever superglued a Death Ray on a Scythe chassis, and and after the fact wished they had rather magnetized the Death Ray and the Portal to the chassis, they are the easiest thing in the world to just pluck off sand down to flat surfaces, and magnetize)
