Are Chaos Bike lists just as competitively viable as SM bike lists? I don't have the Chaos codex.

Chaos has the disadvantage of not being able to take bikes as troops, so the number of squads is kind of limited (no combat squads either). That being said, they can take marks for bikers, and the bikers are cheaper to begin with, Mark of Nurgle for Toughness 6 is really mean. This mens however, that if you're taking lots of bikes, then you may not have a FA slot for heldrake, and still have to find points for troops.

No. They are not troops, get no chapter tactics, and have no grav guns.

Chaos can get T6 and can infiltrate with your warlord 1/6 of the time. Or , FnP and I6 and can Outflank with your warlord 100% of the time. Chaos can get ML 3 psykers, so the better chance of invisibility.

Marines get Scout, skilled rider and can score. They get attack bikes and grav guns. Combat squads add flexibility if you like 3 man bike squads (pfft).

Invisible Nurgle Bikers with infiltrate are better, but like all things chaotic, you won't get that every round. Scouting grav bikers are a safer bet and work every game. And can score.

As stated above, CSM cannot get bikes as troops which basically eliminates a "bike list" as a possibility for an army.

Chaos bikers of most flavors are good (khorne for killy, slaanesh for fnp, nurgle for T6, mmm T6) but they cannot score and compete with Heldrakes for FA slots.

Chaos bikers make excellent retinues for lords, nurgle and slaanesh being my favorite. Nurgle for T6, Slaanesh for FNP. Both have their merits but the most you'll ever need is one squad
