I really want to include a squad of Grey Knight Terminators with Justicar Anval Thawn and a HQ in a Stormraven carrying a Dreadnought. But my Imperial armies are Dark Angels and Space Wolves. Neither are very fond of the Inquisition. I'm struggling to think of a reason why they would be allies. Any ides?

Space wolves are less likely too work with the Inquisition. And as far as I can recall the Dark Angels have never been at war with the Inquisition....that anyone knows about.

The Grey Knights were allied with the Dark Angels during the Pandorax campaign, which is actual studio fluff to boot (but has a novel too if you're interested)

....although the novel does kinda show why they're allies of convenience instead of battle brothers

Yea, the book/story is pretty good. I find I really liked the interactions. I just wish there were interactions within the ranks instead of just between the chapter masters. However, it was a good read - would recommend for any DA fans. Incidentally , I'd also recommend Trials of Azrael the audio drama. It has little to do between the DA and GK but it's the only audio drama I keep going back to over and over...wife's sick of it to death

The Space Wolves are perfectly happy with honourable Inqusitors and Grey Knights. Its the dishonourable ones that cause problems.

Both SW and DA dislike the Inquisition and GK, but they will still fight alongside them in most cases, so taking GK allies is perfectly fine fluffwise.

Yeah, a squad certainly works for allies. A single SR, and using it as a transport, is asking for trouble though.

I'm not sure what you mean? Game wise or fluff wise?

Game wise for the SR as a transport, sorry! That's what I get for having multiple tabs open and losing track of which subforum I'm in.

There's certainly nothing wrong fluffwise with transporting in the SR, a single SR touching down with a squad in it is actually pretty fluffy(there's a book or two that illustrate that). I'd assume the dread is too, never seen anything written about how GK typically deploy them fluff wise though.

Well game wise, I figure that the Dark Angels will be keeping them busy when the stormraven unloads it's cargo in the midst of the enemy. They should be able to take on 3 squads at once. Green wing in drop pods should be able to take out any anti air they have. But this is not the place to discuss tactics.

At a push., doubt they would if not leveraged or the situation was very grim to point they had to.

The Inquisition and the GK have a much greater burden to bear than the SW have ever had, or ever will have. Honor is not rated on being a good guy, honor is determined by adhering to the duties that have been placed upon you. The Space Wolves do not understand honor, they merely understand a sort of primitive "Warrior's Code". Just because it's barbaric does not make it pure.

I'd say Dark Angels would ally with the Inquisition, if for no other reason than to avoid the sense that they have something to hide (which as we all know they do). Given their Chapter's history, I feel like they hold duty and honor in very high esteem, and would therefore ally with GK/Inquisition because it's the right thing to do.

After what happened after the First War of Armageddon, I'd say that the Space Wolves would be fairly apprehensive about allying with the Grey Knights.

The apprehensiveness explains why they're allies of convenience (ditto for... well, almost anyone who allies with Grey Knights, really), but that's a far cry from never allying with each other at all. It is clear to both who the true enemy is, after all (Chaos). Although getting them to ally together on matters that don't involve Chaos would probably be much rarer.
