A bit disappointed the rabbits didn't make it to the final version, though.

Anatolia used to be part of the Byzantine Empire AKA Eastern Roman Empire. Their symbols included, among others the Twoheaded eagle shown here. It existed from 4th cen AD-15th cen AD so yes probably at lest a thousand years old carving.

You shouldn't be worried about the one bullet with your name on it, Boldric. You should be worried about the ones labelled "to whom it may concern"-from Blackadder goes Forth!

Don't listen to the posters trying to dismiss this incredible find!!
They are simply agents of the Emperor trying to keep his secrecy.
Only the truly divine would hide himself to deny his own divinity.
Join the lectitio divinitatus brothers and find that the God emperor of mankind is real and that he is within us all!

for that matter, the emperor's symbol before the unification of terra was the Lightning Bolt, I'm not sure if that can be related to the Aquila.
I like that thinking though, always fun to know where all the cultural/historical references might have come from in the 40k universe.

It is clear the emperor was Julius Cesar!

Or was he Nero and Caligula?

I really dig history, it's my favorite thing to read about. This sort of stuff blows me away, I just wish we knew what humans did in the past!! RAWR!!

Much of the same things they do now. They worked, they ate, they bitched about their spouses, their kids, their neighbors, their government, taxes...

Just for the record in case it is not known:
The Emperor was born in Anatolia according to the HH novels.

U.K

The two headed eagle pops up throughout history it is a symbolic of looking into the past and the future. In ancient cultures around the world there is significant proof of them believing that thunder and lightning is evidence of the divine (Zues, Brontes, Jupiter, Thor, Xolotl, Set, Punraz- to name a few were all thunder gods) so it makes sense that GW would base the Emperor (a godlike being) on a thunder god.

so yeah, just saying...
