If a unit of orks fails their morale test and runs but they run into a friendly unit the next turn do they automatically pass the test or do they run around? What is it's an Independent character?

They run around. Why would they automatically pass the test and why would it being an IC matter?

Does an IC immediately join a group falling back, and, can that make the mob rule fearless kick in?

Found my answer, nevermind.

Might work if the IC gives fearless in a bubble

If there was room between the models the falling back unit could run through to the other unit ?

I know if an independent character ends any phase within 2" of a unit he joins them, not sure about whether it rules out characters that are falling back.

as for running through, I seem to recall you end on the other side of the unit, though I may be thinking of fantasy there.

It does, I just found it under the Independent character rules. More importantly it's not at any phase, only at the end of the movement phase. So if you're falling back from being shot at or losing melee combat, no chance of that auto join anyway.

You can't join or leave a unit if it or you is falling back.
