Working on a Chaos Marine army for a while now, and have been trying out different units, different warlords and what not. I've settled on the army I want to go for - Elite squads (preferably Chosen) of marines with a cultist base, supported with superior tactics and a few vehicular nasties. Specifically, I'm really jealous of the space marine drop pod assault, and have been eyeballing Huron Blackheart with his infiltrate shenanigans.
Then I thought about Cypher, with his infiltrating ATSKNF chosen and that got me thinking about fitting these guys together...
And THEN I heard about these new fangled Helbrute formations, specifically the Mayhem 3 Brute deepstriking one.
So here's what I hammered out:
~Chaos List of Sneaky Bastards~ ~Totally not under-handed Chaos List~
HQ: Huron Blackheart - 160pts (Warlord, Master of Deception)
Troops:
Cultists x20, Autoguns x8, Flamers x2 - 108 pts
Cultists x10, Flamer - 55 pts
Cultists x10, Autoguns x8, Flamer - 63 pts
Elite: Noise Marines x10, Blastmaster x2, Sonic Blaster x7, Champion with Doom Siren, Power Sword, Icon of Excess - 321 pts
Fast: Heldrake, Baleflamer - 170 pts
Heavy: Havocs x6, Missile Launcher x3 - 133 pts
Fortification: Imperial Bastion, Quadgun - 125 pts
Formation: Cypher and the Fallen, Cypher - 190 pts, Chosen x 7, Meltagun x4, Powerfist x1, Champion with Power Sword - 206 pts, Chosen x6, Flamer x4, Powerfist x1, Champion with Power Sword - 168 pts
Formation: Helbrute Mayhem Pack, Helbrute, Multimelta, Powerfist x3 - 100 pts each, or 300 pts total.
Army Total: 1999pts
The idea is to park Huron in the big blob of Cultists and grab an objective with them. Park the small squad of cultists with guns in the Bastion's basement with the Heavy Bolters, and the Havocs on the roof with the quad gun for anti-air/all around heavy support.
The Noise Marines, and two squads of Chosen all infiltrate to go after a prime target of their choice, and if I get a high roll with my warlord trait, I suppose I could put the third cultist squad near another objective.
The Heldrake does its thing, and the Helbrute Mayhem pack pops in to , well, cause mayhem either as a suicide drop on a tough armor/MC or just in the enemy lines for fun.
Cypher... I dunno where he would do best. With Huron and the cultists? Or with a squad of chosen? Either way his Shrouded rule would be useful.
Also I haven't grabbed the dataslate on Helbrutes just yet, so I know they are a group of 3, gain It WIll Not Die and always frenzy - but do they operate as a vehicle squadron?

Infiltrate hel-cults. is that possible?

Each hel cult is 1 helbrute bubblewrapped with 20 cultist. The cultists provide look out sir saves for the brute. Should the brute be destroyed, the remaining cultist get zeaslous.

Sadly, no. A Helbrute cannot be infiltrated with the Warlord trait, only infantry models.

I haven't read the dataslate, but I believe the two units of cultists and helbrute operate independently. The rules for a helcult encourage you to screen the helbrute with cultists, but I don't think it is required.

I'm interested in how this worked - I'm thinking of running something similar with Alpha Legion.

Mayhem-
Arrive from reserve through ds together
Not a squadron and act independently once they arrive.
Always crazed. Roll one dice for all.

Chosen have always been pretty expensive so will never have big squads with wound pools to hide spec weapons. You need to find a way to protect them (shrouded would do it) or keep me relatively cheap and trade em for something more expensive.

Huron is pretty sick. I find he is always useful and surprising opponents. I'm trying to make a mayhem build infiltrating a big blob squad of csm ioe and 10 slogging termies.

I have been thinking outflanking some bikes with a steed of slannesh could fit but mab it's to big a gamble with the dice
