Subject: What is more plausible - Khornate or Slaneesh Eldar?
|

Disguised Speculo

I'm looking at kitting up some chaos Eldar for my chaos daemons (currently mono-khorne), and wondering which is the more plausible option - that the Eldar would fall to Khorne or to Slaneesh.
This of course, includes scenarios such as Khorne forcibly possessing the Eldar simply to spite his hated rival - the corruption does not need to be consensual!
I've got an Avatar of Khaine that can either be a second bloodthirster (with wings added of course), or the Slaneesh tits monster (counts-as at least, probably can't convert no tits onto him...), and a lot of Wyches that will make great daemonettes regardless of which god makes the most sense - the difference is whether their daemon parts and daemonic effects will be blood red or a sensual pink and purple.
What do you guys reckon? Any fluff based precedence is extra welcome!

AFAIK, although there is mention of Chaos dedicated Eldar, their allegiance is not mentioned. Really, any God is as likely as another. The only concrete information is that they are 'the most powerful mortal followers of chaos', which, depending on how you construe it could indicate that they are more powerful then Demon Princes.

Chaos Eldar are very, very rare. But for all that, they are extremely powerful, image how a Farseer is an Eldar, any Eldar, who decides one day he wants to study to be one. Farseers are some of the most powerful psykers in the galaxy, and all it takes is training. That gives you an idea of the potential of an Eldar, now imagine how much the Farseers hold back due to fear of chaos, Chaos Eldar don't have to.
So having entire units of Chaos Eldar seems a bit off, but what would make sense is to have a high psyker level Slaanesh Daemon Prince could represent a Chaos Eldar. Then, if you still want to use the Wyches you could do some free hand glowing wards and swirling patterns similar to Wood Elf Dryads and portray them as Eldar that the Chaos Eldar is mind controlling.
As a rule, Eldar don't fall to chaos unless they actively choose to. That's them choosing to dam themselves, and for that they gain unrestrained power. You can corrupt an Eldars body like anything else if you throw enough warp stuff at it, but they won't be chaos Eldar, they will be Chaos inside an Eldar.
Hope that helps.

The Chaos Eldar are the most powerful and precious of Chaos' mortal followers, even Chaos Space marines don't even try to mess with them out of fear.
That being said, Eldar are like us in that they're all individuals with their own unique personalities. They won't tend to anything anymore than we would.

Back in the old days it used to be Slaanesh Eldar, with the Slaanesh cults back in old, old era's.
There's also some Dark Eldar cults that worship her.

Sweet.
Way I see it I'll be doing the Wyches a favour, falling to chaos will be the best thing they ever did for their tabletop performance.
Now that I think about it, fallen warlocks could be counts-as Horrors, and corrupted Orks could be Bloodletters or possibly Plaguebearers... liking where this is going

If you are planning to use Eldar as Horrors i wouldn't use Corrupted Warlocks, there simply wouldn't be enough of them fluffwise. What i would suggest is to use something like Spirithosts, green stuff pointy ears and say these are Souls of dead Eldar captured and broken to your Daemon Prince (Real Chaos Eldar's) will.

Some people have theorized that Arha, the Fallen Phoenix, fell to Khorne. There's a line in one of the Eldar Codices that flat out states that he fell to Chaos, and if he really is Drazhar or the Dark Master who founded the Incubi, which has been hinted at, Khorne is the most likely candidate. As has been mentioned, Eldar could conceivably fall to any God.
As far as fielding a whole force of Eldar, like people have mentioned, Chaos Eldar are usually powerful individuals, but that doesn't mean that you can't field a whole force. If an Eldar Farseer fell, he could mind control a gang of his followers or get them all possessed. Basically it would be one true Chaos Eldar and a bunch of hapless pawns pumped full of Warp Juju.

Path of the Incubus describes the Incubi's version of Arha's downfall. He infact did not turn to chaos, but his shrine was assailed by chaos. He asked the other P.Lords for help but none came. He defeated the chaos but his armour was rent and torn where the daemons had clawed at his armour and the warping powers of chaos had got to him. He went into his shrine and bade his disciples to kill him, for his body was corrupt. He did so, and his disciples absorbed his soul. Que Incubi.
So, if this is to be believed, Arha was no Chaos Eldar, meerly someone who fought Chaos so much it got a hold on his body.

Well that myth isn't entirely true if you believe the drahzar is arhara or something like that.
It is true that they can be tempted to chaos but they can't be possessed and usually only switch for power, if you wanted to make a chaos eldar army go for it. Just wright some fluff and make it yours. I wrote about a spacemarine/imperial faction that disliked how things are going, found anciant gak about the emperor and now fight for themselves to free humanity and bring a brighter future. But as long as the fluff can bend go until it breaks. cheers and good fluffing

Isn't there (badly written) fluff in one of the Codicies about a Keeper of Secrets posessing an Avatar of Khaine? Can't remember where and on what Craftworld. The only reason I remember this is because of the confusion it caused me. But the Avatars seem to fail/ die more than Abbadon.

I think Slaanesh Eldar is a poor idea. Not because an Eldar could not fall to Slaanesh, but because their lifespan would be measured in seconds. Remember: Slaanesh eats Eldar souls. That's why every Eldar in the galaxy uses some trick or another to make sure that their soul never, ever, falls into Slaanesh's grasp.

Whether or not you think Slaanesh would devour or cherish a willing and highly potent Eldar soul (It's like, why wring a sponge out when it can soak up so much more?) I just like the idea of an Exarch, who has already lost himself to the path, losing himself to the bloodshed.

Old fluff apparently had Eldar Chaos Champions. So long as said champion is bringing Slaanesh His/ Her favorite pointy-eared snacks, I can see Slaanesh allowing and even rewarding the champion.
Thus said, I'm not a big fan of Chaos Eldar. Almost every example (besides the Avatar of Secrets) I know of is in the DE novels. In Path of the Incubus, (mostly slaves, but) a few 'pure-blooded Commorrites' are depicted as posessed and worshipping/ giving their flesh to a (Nurgle?) greater daemon. I should point out in the first book a Haemonculus admits 'the slave races' know more about daemonic possession then the DE. And somewhat counter to that, Archon Yllithian is farmilliar enough with Chaos to correctly identify Chaos God's servents, rivalries and one faction's current goals. While I enjoyed reading these novels, they annoy me because of small incongruencies.
However, as was pointed out in another thread, a Farseer claimed their Soul Stones make them immune to possession without causing death. And in the third Eldar Path novel a Corsair is able to recognize Tzeentch's influence on a SM Corsair Librarian (in their only time meeting, by just the colors of is eyes) when his Battle brother was completely ignorant.
Hopefully that helps, some.

Which makes sense for DE anyways as that's what they do when they let Slaanesh take other souls instead of theirs.
It's why I figure DE still has a few of them around, likely fringe cults of that nature of those who cannot gain power in their society.

I was always under the understanding that "Slaaneshi Eldar" were Dead Eldar. Slaanesh gains power by nomming elf souls. So why have servants when instead you could have more power yourself? As such, I'd expect any chaos eldar to be anything but Slaaneshi. Like Tzeentch, for more psychic muscles.

The only real issue I have is that, with their heightened senses it's likely that any other Eldar would start to recognize the influences of the Dark Gods in some way. It's stated that Eldar Senses (not just emotions but the five (six?) senses as well) are so heightened that two Eldar can have a conversation just by body language alone. In Path of the Outcast, as I mentioned earlier, the 'unnatural light' from a SM Eyes constantly shifted and changed in such a way as to give him away as a servant of Tzeentch. Unnaturally energetic, emaciated or bloated in unnatural ways, so on and so forth, there are some of the signs that would stick out to the average Eldar as a sign of something 'other.' They might not recognize exactly what it is, but it would stand out none-the-less. More modern fluff has old-fluff oddities (Chaos Eldar, Ork Genestealers to mention two) mercilessly culled by their kin. If you want to do Chaos Eldar, my advice would be to cut them off from the rest of their kind either before or during their 'fall to chaos.' It would make more sense how they could survive long enough to become fully corrupt.
However, as Malika says, you an do whatever you want and come up with a justification afterwards.
Indeed, one of my favorite things about the Eldar Path Novels is that, when they do talk about Slaanesh (by his/ her euphemisms) they constantly switch back and forth between masculine and feminine terms. While in the DE Path Novels, they only refer to Slaanesh by feminine terms (She Who Thirsts, mostly). I have to say I thought it was much cooler with the Eldar switching back and forth, suggest both that: Slaanesh is a Warp Entity and can take whatever physical form it pleases and that the lust/ desire and pleasure in excess associated with Slaanesh is both masculine and feminine in nature. After all, was (S)He was born of both (And maybe more?).

Khorne by a long, long shot.
Eldar do whatever it takes to prevent themselves from being eaten by slaanesh. This includes behaving like slaanesh, or thinking like slaanesh, or feeling like slaanesh. I mean, the entire point of the aspect system is to get people to focus on the minutia of getting slightly better at something and learning to distinguish subtleties rather than succumbing to the baser instinct of MORE! MORE NOW!!!
Behaving in a way the opposite of slaanesh, surprise surprise, means behaving in a way pleasing to khorne. The farther they go from mindless hedonism towards perfecting a craft, the closer to the god of triumph and trophies that they get.
You can even see it in dark eldar. Some of what they do is a result of the inescapable pull of slaanesh. They need to ingest vast quantities of sensation because of their tainted souls. But look at the rest of what dark eldar does. The parts they do voluntarily. It's pure khorne for the same reasons.

Except perfecting a craft is very Slaanesh, not Khornate.
It's likely because they don't take much pride it in, feeling it as a duty to be done rather then anything else.

I actually like the idea of Khornate Eldar. Khorne can offer himself up as a powerful patron in the fight against Slaanesh, and while the Eldar's soul may be forfeit to Khorne, it will not be consumed by Slaanesh. It's also not too far a shift from Khaine worship as well.
For Khorne's part, the Eldar would be dedicated and talented warriors against one of his mortal enemies, Slaanesh, and there would be some amusement of taking a heavily pshcyic race like the Eldar and "teaching" them to be better. The wide variety of Eldar Warrior paths would also give a variety of different styles of bloodleting for Khorne to savor.

Cheers for the input guys. I'll try find Path of the Incubus because that seems like a good starting point.
Very good point of "towards Khorne, away from Slaneesh" Aliaros. However I'm very confused with regards to the perfecting a craft aspect.
I just like the idea of an Exarch, who has already lost himself to the path, losing himself to the bloodshed.
So do I. I think we have the starting point of the cult right here.
