The Eye of Terror

Hi thanks for viewing

Recently bought a load of Astra Militarum in a stupid maneuver. However I had too much fun assembling my cannon fodder so now I am going to play with it.
The opponent im playing against is our clubs only guard player who said he would match me points wise. Fair warning he has a Knight I'd rather keep the points down so he doesn't get to use it

I don't own a codex but I have had a read of his so I'm unsure how much all of this costs, but I know how it works.
HQ
Lord Commissar (rides with the CCS chimera)
Bolt pistol, Power maul

Specialist
Primaris psyker MLvl2 (gonna try see what I can do with spare bits)

Troops

Infantry platoon
CCS
2x grenade launchers, plasmagun , chimera(multilaser, HB)

3x infantry squads with a autocannon HW team in each one, (one for bastion, other 2 may be grouped into larger squad)

Veteran squad
Carapace armour
2x plasmaguns
Flamer
Chimera, multilaser, HF

Heavy support
Leman Russ eradicator
3x heavy bolters
Heavy stubber

Fortification
Bastion with Icarus lascannon

idea is that the Leman Russ goes in one corner and the bastion in the other. Using the HW teams, and plasma vets, I will break transports leaving occupants open to bolter and cannon fire, with the Russ and bastion I should have reasonable view of the battlefield, infantry squads claim objectives with the CCS ordering them about and cleaning up the leftovers (hence grenade launcher additions). the lord commissar will deal with LD issues with the objective holders. Psyker sits in the chimera with the CCS. Intend to first place the chimera near the bastion and guide the lascannon shots to armored targets then move forward to help the men.

how does this sound? Also can anyone tell me what it adds up to. Note I am using every model I have, the Russ guns are all interchangable and the heavy weapons team as instructed are held to the base with blue tack so that can be switched too

Note I will probably batrep this so I can learn from it, also game is tommorow evening, thanks for everything realy helps.

Do not mix weapons like ether all plasma or all GL's, next never you heavy weapons teams out side of blobs they will die turn 1 and waste points. If you are going to take the eradicator drop the lascannon and grab 3 heavy bolters and a stubber.

The weapon mix was because a chimera has 2 fire points so I felt it was pointless having 3 plasma guns when only 2 could fire, The flamers there as I'm likely to be wreaked further up the board in flamer range.

I take on board what you are saying about blob defence but lasguns and lascannons fire at completely different targets I'm uncomfortable having them both in the same squad.

The lascannon on the eradicator fires at different targets to the rest of its weapons as the enginseer grants it potms, allowing a shot at a different target.

GL and plasmagun are in the command squad as it is where I dumped the rest of my special weapon carriers

You can use the split fire order to send the lascannons elsewhere. Its a Junior officer order. Also, the first few rounds of shooting will be just the lascannons blasting long range hard targets anyway. Once the enemy is approaching your lines you will want that extra oomph to keep them away. I'm a big fan of autocannon HWTs. They are points efficient and their higher rate of fire compliments the lower BS of guardsmen.

You should take the lascannon off the eradicator. You are going to find that the eradicator is best when used as a troop killer only. Shooting it at tanks is going to be disapointing with one bs 3 lascannon shot.

I would drop the techpriest for a Primaris level one to go with your blob squad, seeing as you dont really have a tank worth giving potms

Good luck with the new guard. They are great. Id definitely say that the next thing you should add is a wyvern battery or a deathstrike. You can't go wrong with either of those choices..

"In battle, you're either killing or dying. So don't stop not dying!"

"The enemies of Mankind may employ dark sciences or alien weapons beyond Humanity's ken, but such deviance come to naught in the face of honest human intolerance backed by a sufficient number of guns"

The new lower point cost for Leman Russ tanks seems to suggest to me that the AV14 be used as a multi-purpose weapons platform. An LR Eradicator w/ LC and MM sponsons now costs the same as a vanilla LR MBT, the IG gold standard. What have your experiences been with the Nova Cannon that makes it solely an infantry killer in your army? (puts on his listening ears and tries hard to learn like a good newb)

EDIT - Plus, I am curious as to how you are going to blob the Infantry Squad with the Heavy Weapon Squad to splitfire the lascannons elsewhere if the rules explicitly stae that only Infantry Squads can blob up under the Combined Squads special rule.

Nova cannon is s6 ap4 ignores cover and is a heavy large blast this ignores every armor save the guard have and robs them of cover. Also strong enough for instant death on characters

Im going to update the above list tell me if I screw up

Hey I just wanted to point out that you don't have a CCS. You have a PCS.

Look to the skies for your salvation.
