How useful are these for Orks in terms of ground or/and air superiority?
Bearing in mind the Ork codex is rumoured as up next, would it be worth picking up a couple or holding off?

they're pretty good for anti-air, and can lay down a lot of shots at a higher BS than most orks. TL also means you are going to be causing a lot of wounds.

And yes, they are going to be getting a new codex, but I don't expect them to add another flier or even change the dakkajet that much. The dakkajet is actually much newer than the codex itself anyway, and from the previous new codex releases, we haven't seen anything in relation to fliers that were already out there.

I can't see it getting any worse. The only thing that may happen is they may get something else in the Fast Attack slot that will compete with the dakkajet.

But from a modeling standpoint, it is a pretty cool model, and I am sure you will be able to get some pretty good use out of it.

Dakkajets look good but the biggest problem is they really only get 1-2 good volley per game.

They're pretty useful for the most part, they're one of the few Ork units that aren't rely on synergy like Ork boyz being in Battlewagons with the KFF Big Mek. They shoot out a surprisingly reliable amount of accurate dakka that can help pour on the wounds onto units that shootas are hard pressed to handle like monstrous creatures or the rears of flyers/tanks. Being able to shoot one round of 18 TL S6 AP4 shots that causes pinning draws pause from anything short of a Land Raider.

I play blood angels and run against orks regularly. He plays 2 Dakka jets every game with ghaz

On a turn ghaz calls the wagggh. His jets get 18 shots each

Keep in mind that's twin linked at 4+ to hit at S6

Against any armor 12 or less you're going to glance it death or more and while the AP is 4 the fact that it's soooo many shots you're gonna get 14-16 hits at more than likely 2+ to wound if not 3+

I fear the Dakka jets as any side hit against my vehicle is toast and or storm ravens are dead

If for no other reason than they're really cool models, get yourself three. They're relatively cheap (as in money) and it wouldn't surprise me if they saw a price increase this summer around the same time the Ork codex drops. Also, I have a feeling the new codex will allow us to take dakkajets in squadrons...

Price is certainly a consideration, especially from a discount store. With a possible increase with the new codex, I'll bite the bullet. Cheers guys.

I've run 2 dakkajets for the last 6 games with my orks, won all 6 (ranging from 1000pts to 1500, we're in an escalation league). they've consistently proved to be the MVP in the games, and synergize brilliantly with a trukk-rush or biker army, as on the second turn you expect 1 or 2 dakkajets to come on, declare your WAAAGH! and by then all your army is in position to assault, so they reap the re-roll on the charge distance too.

The 2 dakkajets have killed, in the last 6 games:
2 flyrants
3 carnifexen
20+ necron warriors
2 night scythes
1 Bloodthirster (all bar his last wound, which he lost to 'the dark prince thirsts' after lining up a last-ditch charge XD)
2 waveserpents

along with the odd 'nothing else to shoot' cases of a few dire avengers, a couple of plaguebearers. nothing noteworthy.

I will say that the flyrants and the bloodthirster were all taken care of in a single volley, with a WAAAGH!, or if you fired two dakkajets at them it's be the same.

all in all they get this orks seal of approval

I will say that if you haven't got anything important to shoot, and the opponent can shoot you down, then fly off and aim at something better next turn. Don't waste a dakkajet shooting some stragglers if it costs you the dakkajet.

I think the dakkajet however is still about 15 points too expensive with the upgrades. Look at the stormtalon. However, in the ork army it's one of the best things.

I think war buggies with big shootas are probably just better forms of dakka....or just warbikers. Because of consistency, but meh you can decide on your own what you want.
