I have recently painted up the dark vengeance dark angels and was wondering what kind of allies they could be. I have heard the SS librarian can be useful. Not sure what kind of powers are best for him.

As far as the troop requirement, would a 5 man tac squad be sufficient? How about the terminators? I am not looking to be competitive, but would like to outfit the few dark angels I have into a respectable ally.

Never tell me the odds!

I don't have the Dark Angels Codex, but I know they have a 'power field generator' or something that sounds like that. It creates a 4+ invulnerable save bubble for every unit within 6" I think? Not sure who can take it, but I'm pretty sure it would be on an independent character. Thus you could stick that into an Astra Militarum blob squad, or in between a bunch of Land Raiders or Blood Angels Death Company assault squads, etc...

The Librarian is a super cheap Divination psyker, so that's good too. But if you are thinking DA with the new Guard, I'd vote the power field if that's how it works, as they can get 3 cheap Divination psykers already

Also imagine a squad of Deathwing Knights alongside a Guard blob. The Knights pop out ready to assault something, then a Ministorum Priest or 2 joins them in the movement phase and they assault something. Those War Hymns suddenly make the Knights absolutely ridiculous and able to kill and survive just about anything using their Smite attack. They can take out Daemon Lords (and have killed my Angraath in Turn 1 without a Ministorum Priest)

A Ravenwing biker squad can be very useful too with their rad grenade launchers, which lower enemy toughness by 1 if it hits.

So basically, the Dark Angels make some very awesome allies for any Imperial force, and are quite versatile. This is all based on my experiences playing against them, and now I find myself wanting some!

I do not know a whole lot about dark angels, and only have the models that came in the dark vengeance set. This force field you speak sounds pretty nice. And I happen to have a librarian

From the Dark vengeance pack you've got a Librarian, who like stated above is good for divination casting, and can take a power field generator (PFG), which grants a 4++ to models within 3" of the libby. great for putting him behind a wedge of vehicles, granting them all saves.

The terminators you've got are really not that good, I'd leave them out.
The bike squad if I recall has a plasma gun, and you could use them to outflank (DA bikes have scout) and plasma some stuff in the kidneys.
The company master should not come with you, he doesn't really add anything.
The tactical squad would obviously be the troop choice for the allied detachment, you could take 5 guys with the plasma cannon for backfield objective camping.

Dark Angels 1st, 2nd, 5th, 10th Companies,

36-21-4

~ 4500 points of Tau
5-5-1

~2500 points of Admech 40k

~6500 points of Tyranids: Hive Fleet Niadra

Just cherry pick from the DA codex.
You are looking at:
A librarian on a bike (I converted mine with the DV box set) - With a PFG, powers depend on the list you are running, although he does have access to prescience, which is good with most.
Ravenwing command squad - 5 man, possibly with ravenwing banner
Tac squad or scouts for troops (doesn't matter, troops are pretty poor for DA)
More Black knights as fast attack, or a darkshroud if your army would benefit from it.
Mortis dreadnought with lascannons if you need anti air (imperial armour unit).

Stay away from ravenwing attack squads, they are pretty bad if not taking them as troops.
Also ignore terminators without storm shields. If you want terminators, then give them TH/SS, or make them knights.
Ignore the heavy support section and the flyers.

Huh? Dark angels have fliers? I dunno, never heard of them before.

they do, they're about on par with a storm talon, but priced like a top tier flier at 180 points.

I mean they'd not be bad if they where like... 40 points cheaper.

To be honest, I thought he was being sarcastic. If you don't know, the model is quite cool, but the rules on the table top are poor. If you like the model then use it as a storm talon for SM or something.

Yeah, i was indeed being sarcastic. You know a flyer is bad when a cheaper model can do even more things than it can (storm talons have arguably more firepower)..........

Dont touch the DA flier if you are on a budget. You are better off with a ravenwing command squad.

With the dark vengeance, you have 4 options for hq: Company Master, Librarian, Chaplain, and Azrael. Of these only the librarian(cheap) and Azrael(expensive) are worthwhile ally choices. The librarian can take divination and a power field generator. Azrael is fearless, and grants a 4++ to his unit.

Your options for troops are much smaller. 5-Man Tac Squad with Plasma Cannon or Plasma Gun, or a 10 man with both.

The ravenwing and deathwing squads will be fast attack and elites respectivly as force org changes only affect primary detachment da.
